What paint are you guys using for touching up the frame? I have a few surface rust spots that are very light, but I'm going to wire wheel them and then paint over it.

Obviously I could go with any satin black paint, but I'm wondering if anyone has anything in particular they like.

@mrblaine, you paint a lot of frames, what's your paint of choice?

Holds up pretty well too I take it?
Started using the Eastwood coatings back almost 20 years ago on a TR6 and it seems to hold up. The finished product is more like a coating then a spray paint job. Don't they just use black water colors in AZ no rust concerns ?

You don't have to worry about rust really, but when bare metal gets exposed, it will get a light bit of surface rust, which is what I am talking about. There's a few spots like that on the underside that I want to cover up with paint after using the wire wheel.

For what it’s worth, I use VHT Roll Bar and Chassis epoxy paint. No primer required, smooth factory look, and it’s been extremely durable. It’s available in a rattle can so it’s easy to touch up when it does get scraped up.

I've used rustoleum oil-based enamel in some spots. Seemed to do the job but I'm all about the mall crawl.

Krylon Rust Tough. It’s what I used to touch up my frame after I bought my Jeep. It looked close enough to factory to make me happy.

Thanks for sharing this!
That is a very close match to the OEM sheen. It sprays well, dries pretty fast and is easy to touch up. Plus it is not a flat or matte finish so it doesn't hold dirt. I use it by the case. If you want a slight bit more shine after you get all the bare metal covered with the Rust Tough, KBS Coatings has a top coat chassis aerosol that is pretty good in Satin.

O'Reiley's had a case so I picked it up. I'll give it a whirl.

Dries in about an hour or so.
No, it dries on the surface so you don't leave lightly touched fingerprints on it. It does not dry hard enough to not leave fingerprints in it if you push hard for a very long time and while it is that tender, the shit just peels right off.

Krylon Rust tough is the most forgiving spray paint i have ever used.

I’ll see if I can peel it off. I’ve never tried to mess with it after painting. I used it because I prefer brush to spray. I turn into a Parkinson’s patient with an aerosol can in my hand.

Krylon Rust Tough semi-flat black. It’s great stuff. It Sprays nice and even. it is a very close to, if not a perfect match to the factory frame color. I use this paint exclusively for the undercarriage of my rig.
Blaine put me on to this paint a few years back.

I second this, it came highly recommended by my 4x4 shop, they said it is what they use. It’s good stuff and to his point, matches nicely.
