I believe he shows a rack system that doesn’t look difficult to build, if no one picked up the idea to sell it.
Yes, This is the more elaborate rack I was looking forI don’t think jscherb’s tj rack ever made it to production. Morryde sells his jk one, but it’s not removable.

good luck getting a 35 under that one. I am building one that is smaller that saddles over the spare, it will be approximately 14" deep and 30-35" long and will secure with a strap that goes around the bottom of the spare. Easily removable and light weight. I'll post pics when completed.Yes, This is the more elaborate rack I was looking for
The MORryde JK Overland Rack will easily fit up to 37" tires under the rack basket.good luck getting a 35 under that one. @Wildman, yours looks more like the original Sierra Rack which is the larger version (17"x43")?I have this that I used on my swingout tire carrier but it would work with the Morryde also.

Good to know on the up to 37" tire fitting. The MORryde JK Overland Rack will easily fit up to 37" tires under the rack basket.
In fact with my 32's there enough room under there that I recently designed and built a propane tank/ammo can tray option for the rack. Only one leg of the rack is shown in the photos below; that's all I needed in the workshop while I was fabricating the new tray.

The TJ rack shown earlier in this thread is independent of the tire size - because the accessories (cargo basket, bike rack, jerry can/Rotopax carriers) are mounted in receivers, they can be set in the receivers at whatever height is appropriate for the size of the spare. BTW the rack shown on the TJ also works on the JK; I have the receivers on both my LJ and my JKU and regularly use them to carry bicycles.

I have the Sierra Rack 2 which is a little smaller (17"x25")

Thanks for the kind words. I do my designs mostly for my own satisfaction - the end result has to be something that I really want to use on my Jeep so it has to be right. If something gets into production that's fine but my main goal is to design something that I'm happy with.jscherb, is your TJ rack available anywhere?
And thanks for all your excellent designs. i bought an exogate about 5 years ago and it is great. I recently picked up an LJ that came with a smittybilt XRC rear bumper and carrier and now I appreciate the simplicity, smoothness, and quietness of your design even more.
I've found mine to be incredibly useful as well. I backed into a clay bank one time which gave the rack an "alignment job". I had to rebuild the square tube receiver to bring it back to level. I wasn't the only one in my crew to pull off that exact same move. The trail became affectionately known as "Cooler Crusher".Yes I think it is. I used the heck out of that rack and even have a nice dent in mine from running into something.
The only thing I did was drill out the hole that holds the pin and put a bolt thru it because my rack would rattle.
A few years ago I picked up a used Garvin rack I found on Craigslist and the guy threw this unidentified tailgate rack in. It's very sturdy and attaches using the spare carrier bolts. If you're close enough to come and get it you're welcome to it.Im wondering if anyone has a removable rear cargo rack setup using something like the morryde or exogate. I like the rear racks but not enough to get one for the rooftop
