I’m 99.9% sure that nothing would come of it but someday the government will want to get back some of the money they are dishing out and I don’t want to give them more than the $70 for a 10 year license from me.

For those people that are uncertain about having a license for ham or gmrs radios, being "legal" in the use of them as required by the FCC is admiral in thinking. Being a ham license holder, and knowing the club I run with uses ham radios exclusively, while on the trail the chatter is relatively short and sporadic. I haven't heard an actual call sign used on the trails in years. The FCC will not waste any money monitoring what is going on with a few people running around in the hills. Do I condone using the radio without the license, probably not, will I report anyone, definitely not, will I loose any sleep over it, nope. Enough said.
