Rebuilt AX5 transmission grinding after install

I’ve just replaced my transmission with a rebuilt AX5 and it doesn’t shift properly (grinds going into 3rd and it also jumps out of gear occasionally. Could it have the wrong fluid? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Someone didn't rebuild it right possibly reusing marginal parts or they just didn't know what they were doing.
Perhaps they swapped it with a used unit from the bone yard saying they rebuilt it.

I've seen it all in this business...sadly.

It says in your bio that you are running the 4.0 6 cylinder engine. An AX5 won't hold up under that engine. It's for the 4 cylinder models. You need to get an AX-15 installed. It could be the trans was rebuilt correctly but you can be sure it will not hold up. Your problem can be a direct result of this mismatch of parts.

Different scenario. The jeep in this thread has the 2.5 engine.

Who rebuilt it? Are they reputable? I'd question the rebuild honestly.

As I said...im betting it's a bad rebuild or none at all and just replaced with a used one from the boneyard

I bought it through a reputable transmission shop. It was my Grandsons jeep and he joined the army soon after we had it put in. The warranty was 12 months or 12k miles. The 12 months has expired but it only has like 2k miles on it and is now working like crap. Was wondering if it might need a different fluid. Needless to say I’m no longer doing business with the place I bought it.

Unless you have power steering fluid in there or something, I don’t see fluid being the issue unfortunately

I don’t blame you for no longer doing business with them.

Hard shifts could be fluid but jumping out of gear would not.
