First Jeep, a 2004 LJ

Thanks AndyG. What in the world is "The front left nutsert on the crossmember in front of the transmission is one to watch...you will hear it before you see it?" And "hear" it? I am mechanically inclined but this is first Jeep ever.

Do you mean Sutton or Gilbert? if Sutton, I did not see the white one. He had one TJ Rubi and four or five LJ's (incl my purchase) but one sold while i was there, so now three. All of them are super clean as in little to no rust.
Sutton...text me at 256-990-4394 if you ever need

I would love to be able to keep an eye on his inventory.. I only found one advertisement but I can reach out to him

The nutsert is a little Bill that goes up in the frame and expands... Rather than drill and tap the frame... On an automatic this crossmember runs across the front of the transmission skid plate and it may be there on the other models I can't remember... Frame flex tends to cause the nutsert to lose its bite in the frame... And it will squeak and rattle and raise cane ..

All the best... You will enjoy your LJ... usually at the age of these you have to do some small things and maybe work through a squeak here or there but it pays off.

If you've never had a Jeep you're about to have the funnest summer of your life

I think/hope we are going to meet up one day in lower TN / northern AL. I’d like to do Stoney lonesome on my way to my in-laws but man that’s a long drive in the Jeep.

We got to Estill Fork a lot, my wife and I have had some great summer days checking out Mentone, Desoto State Park Back Country Roads, and all over the place. Good times. Once she figures out how to keep her hair tamed she will love it.

They work for me and work great in the sand dunes. I've never had an issue.
The only issue you could ever have is they are much stiffer than a load range 'C' tire, and on our light TJ ride much harsher than a load range 'C' tire would. In your scenario a load range 'C' tire would perform better in the sand because they would air down better.

Seriously? You have argued with every statement I've made, but here goes:

Jeep tires in the 16" size are very limited - FACT!
Load range 'E' tires are much stiffer than a load range 'C' tire - FACT!
Jeeps ride smoother on load range 'C' tires - FACT!
Aired down load range 'C' tires perform better in sand - FACT!
Load range 'C' tires perform better for a daily driver - FACT!

If you're happy with your stiff sidewalled load range 'E tires on the road and in the sand GREAT! Someone has to buy them I guess.

Calm down Francis. Don't get your skivies all bunched up over someone sharing their experience with tires.

I haven't argued with you one bit. I just simply shared my experience with the tires I have on my 16" wheels.

You can spit out all the FACTS you want. I don't give a rats ass if the FACTS say one tire is better than another. That doesn't change the FACT that I've never had an issue with them.

To the OP - I wish you the best with that LJ. Great find, you will enjoy it. Sorry if these last few posts were a distraction from your thread.

If it were mine and I was on a budget and using it like you will be, I would either do a 2" spacer lift or a 1.25" body lift and add some Rancho 5000X shocks then put some 31X10.5 tires on it. I would leave everything else the way it is and go.

Edit: I would replace all those tube bumpers as well, but that's a personal opinion.
I have decided on a 2" spacer lift and Rancho's. What else will the spacers require me to do or add? Also, is there one brand of spacer that is better than another?

Get the 128/240 shocks for a proper fit. You may also need to add some bump stop. Take measurements when the springs are out and the shocks are installed to see how much. As far as which "budget boost" , like said above, they are all the same.

Wow. Just watched some videos on installing spacers. That is more involved than I imagined. Folks here doing this themselves?
