What did you do to your TJ today?

The drain plug had zero metal shavings, I didn’t think the oil pan plug has a magnet. I am changing the transfer case and transmission fluid this weekend and I believe they both have magnets on the drain plugs.

I had a shop towel over the exhaust pipe below and cardboard on the floor. From the videos I watched it seemed like oil came out at the end and if you tip it up there is not much of a spill. Mine started coming out as I unscrewed the filter. I think I did not wait long enough for the oil to drain from the plug and that left more up top. Lesson learned.
I saw a YouTube video somewhere that had a great tip/trick. Loosen the oil filter SLIGHTLY, and then grab/turn it with a plastic grocery bag. I've done this on the last couple oil changes, and done right, the filter can just fall into the bag once it's off, oil and all. Wish I could remember who made the video, I'd be happy to credit him.

I'll try to remember this "next time" - sounds like a great idea. I've never been a fan of spin-on filters in general - they're just too messy! Having it sideways like both the Jeep and our Fiat doesn't help at all either.

You ever have one of those nights where you just can't sleep? So I went down stairs at 3:30 and got on craigslist to see what's out there. I thought I would post to the wanted listings looking for a set of the Covenant half doors. To my surprise at 6 am I got a response saying he had a set a would sell them, He had sold his 2003 TJ with only 23,000 miles about 4 years ago and had kept the half doors and soft top. I asked what he would have to have for them thinking 6 to 12 hundred. I about died when he said, I know on line there going for quite a bit but you can have them for one hundred dollars, yes both of them! I didn't know if he was just trying to scam me once I got there or what. So at 10:30 this morning I went to his house. There almost perfect absolutely no rust, there missing some of the clips and screws that hold the panels and there burgundy. He gave me a set set of dana 44 stock axle shafts and stock fender flairs as well. For an extra 50 buck I got the factory soft top its tan. I didn't have room to take it home with me but I'll be back in the morning. This is one of those stories you always hear about and think it will never happen to you! I'm so pleased I just had to share that with you all !

Deal of the year there. (y)

I’ve posted this little pro tip here before. Give it a try when you do your next oil change.
Open up the oil fill cap & have an assistant hold the hose of your shop vac over the opening & turn the shop vac on. It just applies a bit of vacuum to the engine internals which won’t hurt a thing. Once this is done you can go under the Jeep, put your oil catch pan in place & remove the oil drain plug without getting the dreaded oil shower have your assistant remove the shop vac & the oil will drain normally. It’s a much cleaner operation.
Thanks. I will definitely try that.

Installed my TRE synthetic line, safety thimble, and fairlead today. Those of you with a thimble, do you store it by just winching in tight and snug against the fairlead? I've seen some holder fairleads out there that hold it in the upright position, I don't do the type of crawling where I will be worrying about smashing the front up for thar application.

Ooo that will work perfect.
I thought I had gotten it on Amazon but I looked at my order history and didn’t see it on there. Not sure where I got it.

Might be able to find the part number on ram mounts website and then look it up.

Rethreaded all the bolts and nutserts for the front fenders. They were so rusted that when I tried a test fit I was seriously concerned of snapping a bolt. After using my rethreading kit for the first time, they went together like butter!

Hoping to get a test fit of the new tube fenders tomorrow. 🤞

Doors off for probably the first time since 2003. The original owner I am sure never took them off. Wasn’t too bad. A quick squirt of penetrating oil, let it sit for a bit and gave them a good couple whacks with a rubber mallet to break them loose and they came right off.

Also installed a couple brackets so I can have some mirrors without my doors on.
