Rancho RS5000X Questions

no way to tell without measuring.

In my case, I have about 2.5" of lift in the rear and the RS55256 is the right shock due to the lower shock mount rotating down for my SYE. It might be too long without an SYE, but the next shorter one is too short with it.
Good to know. I have an SYE and rotated axle planing as well. Maybe I will be ok.
Does anyone use Bar Pin Eliminators with these shocks?
 
Not trying to resurrect an old thread, but, well... here we go.

I've noticed the ride on my Rancho RS5000x have been rather rough over bumps. Riding on the highway is fantastic, but in town every pot hold shakes the Jeep like a mortar was dropped in my path. They are the stock height shocks. No lift. I didn't know to look for a p/n before putting them on, as stated earlier in this thread, to make sure they were the right length. I've got my tires (31x10.5) at 30psi.

I got under the jeep real quick to snap two pics (albeit, not great) before heading to work today.

Apologies for the not-so-great pics, I was trying to snap the pics in a suit.

Could my problem be that the travel on the shock piston is much longer than the travel on the bumpstop? Or is this normal for a stock TJ? I'm not quite sure why it cant handle bumps well at all.

I recommend going through your jeep and cleaning all the clutter out. All the change, loose bolts. All the crap that makes noise when you hit a bump. A lot of perceived harness on bumps is actually your ears equating the racket with a rough ride. Clean everything out, put on some hearing protection, and isolate yourself from the sound. Drive it again. You may be surprised.
 
The shock part # will be stamped on the bottom of the shock body. Post the part #'s. Also, air the tires down to 26-27 psi. and try again.

Your psi is too high. Try driving at 25-26 and see the difference. TJs are extremely sensitive to tire psi to where one or two psi makes a noticeable difference.

I experienced this exact phenomenon. My first couple of drives with the LJ seemed really harsh, even though it was all the exact same parts that I had pulled out from under my TJ and installed in the LJ. After a while I was able to separate the sound from the ride in my brain and it rides just fine, it just has a hardtop window that's come loose from the adhesive and is rattling in the frame.

I tighten down my CB an secured some of the wiring. Cleaned out my glove box, too. I couldn't see the p/n on the two shocks I looked at, but I think I found the problem. When I got new tires a month ago I don't think I told the guys to only fill the tires to 30psi.

They were at 37psi on the front and 35psi on the back! I've been driving around on granite!

I let some air out - back to 30psi - and it rides back closer to normal. Still a bit stiff, but MUCH more manageable. As soon as I have some extra time I'm going to inspect the shocks closer to see if I can find the p/n's, but for now, I'll use it as-is.

Should be at 24-26 instead but if you’re happy with how it rides who cares.
