We all should be happy at least we still have some kind of interaction with vehicle. I am more concerned about future where a grandson and Grand dad are completely lost on ground of conversation.

I have decided that I'm never owning a manual again unless it's in a sports car. That's the only place I really like them. As far as off-roading goes, I'm glad I'm making the switch to an auto.

I have both right now. One 6 speed, and one 4 speed auto. I take the auto hands down off road. Biggest advantage is hill climbs, with the manual you choose a gear and commit, you shift you lose momentum and get stuck. The auto just does what it needs to do. Manual is more fun on the street though.

4 cylinder or 6? Crawl gears or stock? What axles?

As an engineer I can tell you 1 boundary condition is not enough.

LS swap with an Atlas transfer case and 5.38 gears is different then 4 cylinder stock.

That said I love my manual. Maybe it's not as good at super hard stuff but I love the daily interaction with the vehicle. My mini is the same. I've memorized the power torque curves by feel. Regearing would change it and I'd relearn.

I also had my manual swapped to an auto, 42RLE. Only miss the manual going up hill on the highway.

Take my properly geared TJ with an automatic down the steepest hill you've ever done in 4Lo and Low using compression braking only and watch the Jeeps even with manual transmissions behind you start stacking up because you are going too slow for them.
