What did you do to your TJ today?

Yea, I saw those, and they're just fine.

But I'm anal and wanted to use the stock ones, a bit of grinding, and some new paint and I saved $12!

Are those original recovery points? I'm familiar with the 'claw' style. That more pointed version would seem to provide a likelihood that the strap will slide up and off the shaft.
 
I've been tinkering with the stereo in my 2004 kermit. About 6 months ago I purchased some MTX terminator 4x6 up front and 5.25s for the rear. I blew the rears already! Lack of bass and shrill highs made me adjust the bass too high on my head unit and kill the surrounds.
Last week I ordered some prime 6.5" RF components, fiber fill and closed cell foam baffles for the rear speaker pods.

I apologize for the condensation as spring time in PA has it raining in my jeep with condensation! Anyways, I then wanted to make sure the speakers weren't working against themselves so I then pulled the head unit (installed by previous owner) to check polarity. I found a surprise! Behind the alpine head unit was hiding a little gem of a unit.

That is a nice little 4 channel amplifier designed to boost the output of the amplifier. I'm wondering if the over excursion of the rear speakers was due to too much powa! I cleaned up the wiring harness and re-installed it on top of the left vent tube under the steering wheel. hopefully this fixes the random rattles behind my dash as the previous owner used double sided tape which doesnt exactly stick anymore. I chose zip ties to attach it to the top side of the vent tube. Next week will be a good week for further improving the TJ's interior. Im adding storage and a little sound deadener (by design) to the rear cargo area.
 
I pulled out the aftermarket roll cage from my 98 SE and swapped it for stock extensions.

Then I washed the Jeep and painted a few accent pieces that were showing age (center dash surround and front bumper jugs).

Next weekend will be removing the 3” body lift and hopefully painting the diamond plated corners something a little less blingy.

As I discovered first (only) time I had to tow the Jeep, tow strap kept falling off , had to use a couple bandanas to keep them on. The new ones are MUCH better.
 
The after looks much better IMO. (y) I thought about going back to the stock Rubicon wheels, but being 16" stops me.

The E rated tires weren’t a concern for me, I’ve never felt like they were an issue before. That said, I have to say I’m actually pleasantly surprised... I haven’t been thrilled with the ride of the OME shocks. It’s pretty well established they’re stiff as hell, but I had loved my previous ones so much that I ignored the warnings. I played with tire pressure, adding weight to the Jeep, but nothing seemed to work with the KO2’s. But some combination of the heavier tires, stiffer sidewalls and a higher pressure seems to be affecting the behavior of the shocks and the ride is much improved. And as anyone in the northeast knows, roads are pretty rough these days so the idea that things are better now is saying something. If I were to ever go to 35’s, I’d have no issues going with 315’s on the 16’s.

A lot of good progress lately.

Engine coolant flush and replace (HOAT)

Transmission fluid drain and fill, new filter

Oil change

Fender flares treated with a heat gun (1300 degrees) to restore color (pics attached). It works on that little plastic corner triangle at the front of your door windows, too.

Replaced drag link, steering dampener (Monroe SC2928)

Upgraded to ZJ tie rod. Looks great, much stronger than stock. I bought it from O’Reilly’s - it’s the Moog brand and I paid way too much but I wanted to get it done right away and it was already painted for me so I rationalized it.

I replaced all related connectors, tie rod ends, and added Lucas Red n Tacky grease to all the zerks.

I set the toe in per the method recommended by Stu, seemed alright but I took it straight to an alignment shop this morning so I will see how close I made it. I also stopped by Lowe’s for some square tubing so that later I can do it using Blaine’s method that was posted by Jerry.

Hopefully this will eliminate the vibrations I’ve been experiencing. I will test it once it’s finished at the shop in the next hour or so.

Good news is I nailed it on the driveway alignment - no adjustment needed.

Bad news is that my vibrations at highway speed at still present. To recap from other posts, the vibration disappears when I remove front driveshaft. With front driveshaft in, it is reduced about 90% in 4WD (either with or without the rear driveshaft removed) as long as I’m on the gas. I’ve had the front driveshaft straightened and rebalanced which helped a little bit. I’ve now changed tie rod, drag link, track bar, and all related connectors, tie rod ends, etc. My suspension is very close to stock (H&R springs give maybe 1” lift). Control arms are stock so no adjustments for caster and camber can be made. I’ve tried multiple sets of tires and multiple balancings on each (spin then roadforce). I’m at a point where I’m about the pull the trigger on the Yukon locking hub conversion unless someone can suggest another area to investigate.
 
Its not done yet but I'm doing the rear main seal and trying to figure out why it keeps dripping tranny fluid- might make that someone else's headache I have oil pad down and the mail cap off- just need to get seal back in and bolt it up then deal with the tranny.

What transmission do you have? Mines an automatic. When I did my rear seal, I also replaced the transmission cooling lines. While your this far into it, take a look because you have the remove the exhaust header to replace the lines.

I thought I had a leak near my transmission drain pan, but it turned out to be engine oil that worked its way behind the inspection cover on the bell housing. New rear seal and clean inside the bell housing cured my leak (knock on wood).

Installed all my stereo stuff from the TJ I just sold. Polk speakers, Kicker in the console, amp under that dash. Ripped out a pile of old wiring from a previous stereo system. Cleaned some wiring up under the hood.

Removed the snorkel because I don't plan to use the LJ as a submarine.

Added two missing bolts connecting the rock sliders to the front fenders. Put my license plates on it. Had to drill holes in the front bumper to mount plate, and its going to get demolished on rocks but whatever.

State inspection and legal stuff Tuesday. Insurance Monday with Haggerty.
 
Took a wheeling trip in southern Utah in January, but have been crazy busy at work since so no time to post pictures or work on the Jeep.

Finally had a breather last weekend, installed wider fender flares. The rooster tail and spray was fun, but messy and made opening the windows a terrible idea. Problem solved.

They look much better than the old, sun-bleached ones too. Before:
