Hello,

I am new to the forum and this is my first post. Please bare with me. I read though a few of the previous posts with what i thought was a similar issue to mine but i didnt see any answers.

Bought my 2006 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited 4.0 with automatic about 3.5 years ago. I noticed it had the hard shift issue. I unplug the PCM and it would go away for a while and eventually come back. About 3 years ago I finally decided to try the " wrangler fix " PCM, being a bit skeptical not a fan of not being able to tune it. And the issue has been gone ever since .

About 2 weeks ago on my way home from work.....

Friday: the jeep started to high rev and check engine light came on. I coasted to the side of the road placed her into park and did the ignition check. Got the ever so awesome P0700. Started her up drove home in first gear on back roads. Got home, changed and decided to go t/s. i check fluid everything fine. I started her up and drove to the auto store to buy a reader and she shifted through all the gears again just fine. Wtf!

Get reader check codes in parking lot. Ok its now a shift solenoid P0750 i order a new one from orileys along with a new filter and lots of fluid.

Saturday: disconnected battery, open her up replaced solenoid pack, filter and sealed her up with some permatex.

Sunday: after the 24 hr recommend wait time. I fill her up with fluid, connect the battery and started cycling the atf through the system. After shes all topped off i drive her around everything is peachy!!!!

Monday through Thursday: drive her to and from work, multiple errands with no problems!!!!! Yay everything is awesome!

Friday: go to work no issues drive home no issues. Leave for camp half way to camp high rev engine light p0700. I turn her off and back on it goes away for about 6 miles come back high rev p0700 i turn off and on again, goes away for 30 or so miles till i stop and top off fuel at the last gas station. I leave again 10 minutes on the road high rev p0700 stop turn off turn on repeat every 6 miles for about 3 more times till she ran fine the rest of the way to camp.

I finally get to camp while thinking and cussing the whole way there..... what could it be. I decided maybe i needed to reset the PCM and let it relearn even though i just drove it for a week no problems. So i disconnected the battery and all the pugs into the PCM for the night.

Saturday: reconnect everything! Did crazy wheeling......sand, rock, sand, rock, hills, dunes, lockers, no lockers high speed up dunes the transmission is working great !!!! Yay i figured it out!!!!!

Sunday: little wheeling and drive home no issues.

Monday and Tuesday: drove to and from work and multiple errands no issues

Wednesday: today! On my way to work high rev P0700 turn off tun on goes away. On way home and a few errands no issues.

I checked the wiring harness, the connections, the fluid, reset the PCM the temps have been high heat no problems and standard cooler start up no problem. And again standard temps with problems. So i dont think its a temperature issue. Please dont try to tell me its a filter issue or else it would have shown during the first week or while i was wheeling.

I am open to any kind of help, im getting desperate. Sorry for the long book but i wanted to paint the picture best as possible.
Thanks!

I don't have experience with that specific code, but I think it's a general OBD2 code, not Mopar specific. What reader are you using? I have AutoEnginuity and it will read all of the Mopar specific ones, there may be an underlying Mopar code that will be more telling.

You will need a code reader that reads tranny codes. The P0700 code is just letting you know that the PCM is sensing something wrong with your transmission. I picked up the 'cheapo' model from Harbor Freight that reads them.

Please read the post . Already stated i bought a code reader already stated what the second code was P0750.

What brand shift solenoid “A” did you use from O’Reilly’s?

Does Mopar still have one available? It’s a thought bc some parts really want a Mopar to work.

Standard ignition was the brand w/ a lifetime warranty.

124,000 give or take.

It is possible, that the valve body solenoid switch valve/bore is worn. Intermittent solenoid fault codes and 2nd gear failsafe mode CAN be from this area wearing out. The solenoid block in this transmission buzzes this valve at a million miles per hour constantly while we are driving.

I am NOT saying 100% this is your issue, but if it were mine I would be pulling the valve body and checking for wear and a sticking valve. It is very common actually.

Awesome!!! Thank you, its a lead i havnt tried yet.

Check for chafed wires at the firewall.

I fought some intermittent issues for a while (0740 I think), ended up getting a rebuild.

I would be looking at wiring and also the transmission relay and #5 20A fuse in the PDC where wiring for the solenoid pack begins. The engine and transmission both move around during normal driving. It’s possible you are shorting to ground. If this occurs while the PCM is sending the reference signal (every 10 seconds) you will go into limp mode.

I did check all the wiring multiple times.
I did not check the #5 20A fuse.
The atf was ATF+4

So i replaced the relay and fuse today. Then cleared the codes. Last time i cleared the codes it started acting up after about a week of driving. I will keep you posted.

No joy with the relay. Still receiving the p0700 followed by the reader p0750. I guess i will open it back up and check the valve body solenoid switch valve/bore for wear.

Any other suggestions?

Did you ever get this worked out? I have the same p0750 code. Changed the fluid last week but still no luck with it. It just randomly throws code and into limp mode.

I ended up doing a full transmission rebuild. Along with new shit solenoid.

Thank for this info. I have the same problem off and on for years. Going to start with that new fuse.
