Definitely makes removing the battery easier since I don't worry about hitting the tub with the wrench
Always remove the negative cable first. Always install the negative cable last. That prevents the sparking wrench thing........
I felt bad for not even knowing what you were talking about at first. LOL
That would have been handy before I almost welded a wrench to the tub while tightening the positive terminal! 
The Jeep I'm build now was missing its guard. To make matters worse, it was also missing the battery hold down. This was evidenced by the battery "weld" mark on the passenger fender, where the + terminal contacted the fender. Some split rubber hose and a battery hold down fixed this problem!
As a dumb teen I welded a battery to the hood twice in 1 week. TWICE. Guess I finally smartened up after the second time. Was needing to keep swapping batteries between vehicles, depending on what needed to run at the time. Didn't want to waste time with the battery hold downs. Stupid kid. Hopefully a bit smarter now.
I don't have one & am now starting to feel inadequate. I hate this forum.

If you don’t have one, a piece of that door edge guard trim would work pretty well. Even a small length of small diameter hose.
