Battery drain issue

I have 2 battery tenders, 1 is connected to my RV batteries and will stay connected for months on end. The other is for my F-250. The F250 has quite a bit of parasitic drain that can kill both batteries in 3 or 4 weeks. Both tenders work great!

The computer system on the Jeep and the radio are the parasitic drains. They need power to keep the time and the memory. You can't real get rid of those things. That's why you disconnect the battery or put it on a tender for long storage.

Unless you disconnect the battery, you're not going to get rid of the low drain on the battery caused by keeping the memories alive in the engine computer and radio. Those are necessary so the computer doesn't lose what it has learned about your engine and your radio doesn't lose its clock setting and station presets. No need to look for the parasitic drains, those are them.

Just install and use a battery tender as was recommended above and then there will be no more need to worry about it.

I agree with @Jerry Bransford. Unless the battery is going dead after sitting for a couple of weeks I wouldn't spend anytime looking for parasitic draw. I would just throw a tender on it and be done.
 
If it is long periods of time before your battery is dead then I wouldn't put too much into.

I supplied the PD test so that you could refrence it later.

I would like to actually add some actual helpful info to this thread. The FSM states a parasitic draw on or around 25 miliamps is normal for the PCM and radio presets/clock. But not able to find the actual acceptable range that it can be in before you should start hunting for problems... Again, this would be with OEM radio and no aftermarket alarm and/or other accessories.

Good to know about the 25 mA draw. With that little parasitic draw a good battery should last a couple of months unattended.
 
My Wrangler has been fine until it went in for a State Inspection. Since then, it can't make it overnight without a dead battery ... not sure if something was done or it is coincidence. Checked and it is drawing a constant 2 amps. All doors are closed and can't see any lights on. When I do connect the power, I hear something engage in the engine compartment ... what might it be and why?

Next step to start pulling fuses ... where ever they are.
