Front camera for crawling

Allrighty fellas, I want to run a forward facing camera for crawling. I did a search and found a couple of threads on this but didn't see any specific comments about this camera.

Anyone have any experience with this? Also I don't have a Carplay stereo with screen/etc. so I need to figure out what unit I can fit in my center stack of my TJ. Suggestions? Real world experience with this? I've seen some old reviews of skeevy looking no-brand-name electronics and they're not even in production anymore two years later.

I am using a KENWOOD double din head unit and am using two KENWOOD cameras. One rear facing for a back up cam and then one forward facing camera I originally mounted it on the front bumper but then moved it to under the Jeep mounted on the top of the front Differential so I could see the diff hangers. Unfortunately i did not use a camera that was submersible and it didn’t like going underwater. Worked great while it lasted.

I used Boyo brand from crutchfield, its cheap $50, front and rear. Rear is on relocated plate on spare tire. Front is on the front plate.

I use a Garmin Dash Cam 56. In addition to recording accidents and unexpected impacts, it takes stills and makes videos that won't be recorded over unless by choice. My primary purpose for the purchase was for windshield travel shots on a month long trip to Baja. It worked perfectly for that.

Mine can be controlled by Bluetooth; front and rear cameras can be synched. Most Garmin dashcams will accept a micro SD memory card up to 512GB that can record up to 110 hours depending on resolution and bitrate. [I use 128 GB].

Double din radio bezel, can get from crutchfield or Amazon. Easy install. I’ve since upgraded the radio, new one has more camera inputs.

Yes, no problems with water so far. Plus they are cheap so if I did have an issue I wouldn’t be too worried. They’ve been on the Jeep for atleast two years.

Saw the DIY magnetic camera mount review. That's a cool idea, because you could place them exactly where you wanted, and move them around. Maybe disconnect when not in use.

I'm looking for a pretty sleek, clean install here. Does anyone know of a video-capable rear view mirror that will accept multiple camera inputs like that, and be controllable on the RVM? That'd be really slick.

I used the magnets for my grill mounted camera, works very well. The others got one self tapper each, no magnets.

What were you using to select back and forth between the cameras before? I saw the Amazon link to the multi-input doohicky, but was there an actual switch you added, or did you use some other trigger?

Sorry should have mentioned, I use a SPod to trigger it.

Far left switch: middle position is front. Left or right arrows is a front tire

I know this thread is old, but I wanted to revisit it.

I added a new Ford Bronco to my stable. It's a pretty cool truck, it is a Badlands model with Sasquatch package, etc. but I still like my TJ better, so don't worry.

I really like how primitive and utilitarian the Jeep is but at the same time, one feature which is definitely cool right out of the box is the camera system built into the Bronco. I don't like putting any gimmicky crap on my Jeep. Every single piece of equipment has to earn its way onto the frame. And, I have to say, cameras qualify. I sometimes don't have the best spotters and being able to see where my tires are rolling is a huge advantage for my everyday wheeling. It will greatly increase my odds of driving home instead of a trail fix.

Any new updates on this? I want a permanent solution so I gave up on the magnet mounted camera idea. I just want them to be installed and never removed, always available.

Yes, in fact, a 3ft deep ditch CAN fit in my blindspot.

Many action cameras (gopro knockoffs) will feed to your phone. Waterproof, easy to mount and no wires, but not a permanent setup.

Mounted in the grill, like on the JT and JL, the camera actually does a great job, especially when climbing to a breakover
