It's not too bad. Aluminum is just about the exact same weight as steel for equivalent strength and that is high quality Aluminum and weld steel so a cheap welded aluminum box that weighs less is weaker by the exact ratio of the weight. If the Aluminum box was high quality 6061 it would be great but the fact is it was welded so it ain't. Only downside of the Tuffy box is I have to take it out and clean up the rust and paint it every few years. Tuffy stuff is top tier, if aluminum was better they'd use it. They know the math.

shipping weight is 97lbs which in my opinion and for my usage is actually too bad.
I think it's 92lbs but still obviously too heavy for you. If I was concerned about weight I'd just get an aluminum top and front plate and use the rear gate to access things. You don't need the bottom, side and rear panel of the box so why carry around the extra weight? It wouldn't be too difficult to cut a few sheets and make some angle brackets to join it all together with your skill set.

It looks like a pretty nice product, but its $1500+. Weighs in at 80lbs which is surprising given its made from the composite MDO material.

It's a hard sale even for me, and i apparently love burning dollars on jeep parts.
Hard to tell from the picture, Boom, but that doesn't look like much of a drawer slider. Did they give you an estimate on capacity?

Pretty sure it would - as long as the weight was being supported at the edges, and not in the center.

8" tall... with some of that for the drawer... doubt I could even fit my tool bag in that let alone my compressor bag...
Out of all the examples listed these appear to be the most sane. Pricewise. Will the tailgate cover the lock on the second one? Looks like an added bonus.
But im looking up the tuffy now.
Edit. Maybe not on the tuffy one. To expensive for me. Looks like the sweet spot would be the second one above and a HF hitch tray mounted above the box.

The amazon reviews indicate those options are exceedingly easy to break into. there's hopefully a balance between those you can open with a hammer and $1500 drawer.
Amazon used to have this one for $50. It has served me well, but no longer available.

Honestly this box is pretty flimsy (tin can). I would suggest adding reinforcement any and all places you can. I wish it was a bit deepe r as it leaves a lot space to pry off the tailgater. I wager if you gave me a decent flathead screwdriver I could reef it open.
