While this is a true statement, the 10w-30 recommendation is more likely a bid to squeeze another 0.1 mpg for CAFE standards than because the engine was actually designed with 10w-30 in mind. The AMC inline sixes that our 4.0 is directly descended from were almost certainly designed around 10w-40 or similar.
