What oil should I use for a hot climate in my 2006 TJ?

10W-30 is what the engineers at Jeep recommend and is what I run in even extremely hot conditions.
That's great in a glass with a little rum, ice, and a cherry on a little umbrella.
It's the umbrella that provides shade and keeps the temps down.
The highest recorder temp in Perth is 115.
That is the daily average in the summer at my house with recent high of 122 a few weeks back.
We will be at about 103 today.
That said I run Mobile 1 10-40.
Once I start the LJ up it will not be shut of for 5-8 hours depending on where I am going.
Where ever I am it sits idling with the AC on high keeping it cool inside.

Made by Valvoline (at least it used to be) and is a perfect oil for your conditions and engine. The 4.0 isn't exactly Ferrari tolerances even when brand new.

Out of curiosity because I live in a different (pretty hot) country. What do you consider extremely hot conditions?

While this is a true statement, the 10w-30 recommendation is more likely a bid to squeeze another 0.1 mpg for CAFE standards than because the engine was actually designed with 10w-30 in mind. The AMC inline sixes that our 4.0 is directly descended from were almost certainly designed around 10w-40 or similar. CJ service manuals from the mid-80s indicate 10w-30, 10w-40, or 20w-40 are all acceptable.
That said, I run 10w-30 myself.
