The fuel pump I am guessing was going bad since I had to double start the jeep since I bought it a week ago. It left me stranded at the gas station today. Pops off with starter fluid but would not run or stay running with the fluid so I am guessing its the fuel pump? Watched a video on replacing it and have read to purchase the "Bosch" brand if I am going to be replacing it. Also about to run to harbor freight and grab a jack after reading the harbor freight jacks were suggested on here a few times. Any tips or tricks I should be aware of in replacing this? Will a new fuel pump come with the seal at the tank?

If your long start/double start issue is fuel pressure leakdown, it will most likely be the fuel pump or injectors. I'd recommend Bosch as it is the OEM. Another popular option is Delphi.

Keep in mind there are several different pump models for different year model TJ's. You can buy just the pump to replace and keep the module, or you can buy a whole new module. I'm not sure what seal you are talking about but when I bought mine, it didn't include any new seals.

Gas is heavy. Everything about this project will be easier if you have very little gas in the tank when you tackle it. There are fuel lines and an electrical connection to disconnect at the front driver's side of the tank, and, depending on year model, there may be emissions-associated lines to disconnect inside the rear passenger fender well. You will have to remove the fender liner to get to them if you have them. I believe that goes for 03-06 models, whereas the previous ones had emissions equipment located elsewhere.

So I got it out and put the new fuel pump in. It appears I didn't disconnect some sort of breather valve or something and It looks to have broken off at a "T". I believe I took a hose off of a different "T" that was unrelated to this project potentially.

Also, if that "T" is broken is there somewhere local that might carry it or is that a special order.

While I have the tank down is there any other recommended items I should do that would make having the tank down more accessible to do? Like shocks or coils or anything?

There is a breather hose that goes up from the housing tube and is zip tied to the fuel filler neck. Is that what you are talking about?

Potentially yes. Where that breather hose might connect on the tank there looks to be a "T" that I show about in the pictures where it broke off.

Yeah, the tank is kinda crusty. Anybody with a recommendation on anything else I can do while I have the tank down? I will probably put in the rear shocks as well.

Hit that tank with some cleaner and a scrub brush. Whenever I have parts down I try and clean them before reinstalling.

Obviously make sure the tank is sealed up.

Yea deep clean the tank, check the skid’s integrity, and clean, clean, clean.

Makes for easier work in the future. Also easier to visually check for issues, leaks, crack, etc.

Have you fixed the valve inside so it doesn’t spew fuel everytime you fill it?

I have not, what all does that entail.
