Ahhh I see. So as long as it makes it down the tubes we're good. I imagine a little extra oil might have some cooling benefits though
Well I don’t check my gear oil level while doing service, so I don’t have that problem. If there’s no leak, there’s no where for it to go.
If I did some water crossings or mud, I'd possibly be a little concerned about contamination, but I don't so I don't check it regularly. No need too. I'll just change it every 30k miles or so. I would say the rear axle you have pictured has seen some abuse and/or neglect well before this happened. You don't check for contaminated gear oil when you service your jeep? Its not just about leaks.

Why would the seals care when there is a breather?I would rather have a little less than spec in there instead of too much. As long as it partially immerses the gears so they pick up oil as it spins you're good. As others have said overfilled is not great for your seals.

I really dont know much about differentials but that's what I have been thinking. Why would the seals care when there is a breather?
Ask yourself where any built up pressure goes.I really dont know much about differentials but that's what I have been thinking.
All I know or care is that if the diff is overfilled, it will eventually spit out what it doesn't want through the breather. It's interesting to see the different opinions on this. I'm curious what recommendation a gear manufacturer might have?
Did I miss someone suggesting to run them dry?Windshield washer fluid does not have to be accurate.
Making sure you’ve added enough gear oil to protect a major component of the drivetrain is pretty fookin’ important.
No need to be a passive-aggressive turdburglar to someone that’s trying to make certain they’re taking proper care of their investment.
Something tells me you miss a lot of things — social cues, mostly.Did I miss someone suggesting to run them dry? (Blah, blah, blah, on and on...)
The question was asked if the vehicle needed jacked up to compensate for a pinion angle while filling with lube.Something tells me you miss a lot of things — social cues, mostly.
I’ll give you some credit, though: I didn’t quote you and you somehow knew it was you to which I was referring.
Yawn!(Blah, blah, blah, I didn’t get enough hugs as a child, blah, blah, blah, more passive-aggressive horseshit to make myself feel better, blah, blah, blah, I am very bad-ass.)
