This is why your dash speakers suck

The audiophile purists would never use a DSP at all. But it's car audio so it doesn't matter. Never really understood the desire to throw lots of money at a space that will never be good for listening to music. All to go from bad to mediocre, or usually just loud.

But hey, we all have our hobbies.

I have a Genesis G80 in addition to my TJ. It has a built in unit by Lexicon with a DSP and 21 speakers. It's an amazing car stereo for sure but engaging the DSP vs not is barely perceptible unless you're trying to play and analog to digital piece that was captured via a phonograph or tape. Any decently mastered digital format source it's not noticeable.

Alright damnit, its Genesis. The name of the place we're going is Genesis! GENESIS?!? Yes, Genesis! How can you be deaf with ears like that?

Ha that's some museum quality stuff you're talkin' about right there! 🤣
Got rid of the half-stacks years ago. Still have, and occasionally use, the Peavy's with my guitars. I love those old amps and the sounds you can get out of them. I had the cabinets restored about 10 years ago as well.

At one point in my life the audiophile stuff overtook me. I also have a pair of Klipschorns (or commonly known as Klipsch Corner Horns) if you want to get into Museum stuff. I got them back in the mid 80's from an estate sale. Nothing like hauling around 200lb floor speakers when you move.... :ROFLMAO:

Think I'll try this first too, just got my 4th TJ and dash speakers were always useless, may as well try..
Whatever you install just verify they have NO LESS than a 90 dB or higher Sensitivity rating. If they don't you'll be disappointed again. Even speakers rated at an 87 dB Sensitivity rating require 2X the power to produce the same audible level speakers with a 90 dB Sensitivity will produce.

Is it me, or do you still picture the OP doing all this work and then driving around with the top off, or even with a soft top. :D

I used to be into car stereo stuff in the 80's and now have just too many expensive hobbies to get into it again. Though if I was going to put ANY money into car audio, it would go in my DD and not my Jeep.

Yes, thank you, I’ve just learned ‘sensitivity matters’ in the last couple of years, good reminder from an ole school audiophile is appreciated though

Not to change the subject, but what's the most recent go to for a 6.5 in the rear pods.

Just did a quick run to REI from my office, 35 minutes each way, 75mph, sunrider open, windows down.

Alpine iLX-W650
Alpine KTP-445A head unit power pack
(2) 5.25" Kicker speakers in the Select Increments pods in my dash
(1) 10" powered Cerwin Vega sub under the driver seat.

Definitely not as loud as my old competition level system, but I'm also not trying to lose my hearing anymore. No issues hearing my music. I attribute that to the Select Increments pods in my dash... and proper tuning of the high pass/low pass filters.

Reading this and going through some audio struggles of my own... I hafta laugh. We strive for what we feel is best and we wring our hands over brands and sizes and quality and then, doors off and tops down, we barrel down the high way in our off-road noise machines...

I WEAR EAR PLUGS WHEN I DRIVE!! LOL!!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::LOL::LOL:😂😂🤦‍♂️
