For about 2 weeks now I've been dealing with a check gauges and airbag light at startup. I believe these are separate issues that just coincidentally happened at about the same time, so I'm considering them separately for now.
The check gauges light is on for about a second or two after starting the Jeep. I've noticed that this coincides with the oil pressure gauge reading zero for that time. Then when the gauge levels off around 20 the light goes off. The only thing I can figure is the sending unit or the pump itself. Oil pressure is pretty normal for the most part during operation, constant 40 when moving and hovering around 20 at idle. Occasionally the gauge will dip below 20 at idle. Battery voltage has been steady at just under 14V, only a few months old and it were and alternator issue the battery would probably be dead by now.
As for the airbag light, it's on for maybe 10 seconds after starting. In a particularly unfortunate set of events, I both lost my key and had to have a new one cut by a locksmith and left the jeep in the rain with the top off for a few hours. My first thought is moisture in the clock spring, but I've read elsewhere that issues with the key in the ignition could cause an airbag light. The key was cut based off the dealer specs and the ignition switch has gone through 25 years of wear so maybe it's possible?
It's a 97 SE BTW.
