PLEASE LEAVE THIS THREAD IN THE UK FORUM IT SPECIFICALLY RELATES TO A PRODUCT FOR SALE IN THE UK

I recently bought a Teraflex RHD steering box skid from Jeepey.com. when it was delivered I saw it was not the same as the picture on the Teraflex or Jeepey.com websites and I could not see how it could fit as per the instructions. I spoke to Jeepey.com today and it seems this is a known issue, for some reason known only to some complete moron at Teraflex they ship the RHD skid without the bracket that allows the skid to be attached to the lower bolt which attaches the steering box. This turns the skid into a useless 2kg lump of steel. The technical guy at Jeepey.com says it is a known issue but Teraflex have just ignored it when they have raised it. Jeepey.com tell me when they have fitted them they have had to fabricate brackets to make the usable. Jeepey.com have been very reasonable and are letting me return the item at no cost to me and have taken the part down off their website now.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU DO NOT BUY A TERAFLEX RHD STEERING BOX SKID FROM ANY OTHER SELLER IN THE UK UNLESS YOU CONFIRM IT IS COMPLETE.

OK, I have a significant update to provide on this.

I thought I would have another look at the Teraflex steering box skid, having looked at how the Savvy one is fitted. I have now managed to fit it, but it does not fit in the same way as the LHD version. Rather than having a tab or bracket that allows fixing with the lower steering box bolt, you need to put a bolt up through the drain hole in the frame. I followed the really helpful advice from @MountaineerTom and @Irun and pushed a wire up from the drain hole and through the small gap at the top of that section of frame. I then threaded a flange nut onto the wire and dropped it into the frame, the nut runs down the wire and lands over the hole. You can then remove the wire and insert a flat head screwdriver in from the top and jam it on the nut. Then apply anti seize to the bolt and insert it from the bottom, through the skid and the spacer included in the kit and tighten, once the nut is pulled down into the frame the serations hold it enough to allow full tightening. It ends up like this

As Teraflex include the instructions for the LHD version that fits on the steering box bolt (centre of picture above), provide no hardware for this fixing point other than the spacer and Jeepey.com who sell it in the UK seem to have no idea this is how to attach the part it is only due to help from this forum that meant I had any clue how to fit the part.

There is second mounting point onto the lower bumper bolt, which is easy to attach. The third fixing point requires a hole to be drilled in the cross member. I have drilled this hole but I am unable to get the self tapping bolt supplier by Teraflex to work. Once I have some M8 bolts and flange washers I thank I will use those instead of trying with the included bolt any more.

While it is not quite as bad as a part being missing, supplying the skid with instructions for another version that attaches in a different way is pretty piss poor IMHO. The fact the company that sells it does not know how it fits is not exactly great either - especially as they also have a workshop that fits them and they have ended up fabricating brackets to get them to fit.

I can't say I'm surprised. I strongly suggest you buy NOTHING from TeraFlex. (y)

Also, while this thread may seem like it belongs in the regional forum, those forums are typically meant for events, meet-ups, etc.

I'll leave it here at your request, but please be aware that something like this will actually get noticed more in the TJ General Discussion forum as oppose to buried in a sub-forum almost no one ever visits.

I don't move threads around to piss people off. I move them around because I know what I'm doing. My background is heavily in SEO (Search Engine Optimization), web design, and marketing. Again though, I'll leave it here at your request ;)

If I lived in the US and had a LHD TJ I doubt I would ever buy anything from Teraflex, but I don’t so most of the suppliers that would be top of the list for you guys are simply not an option for the few of us in the UK. As far as I could find Teraflex are the only people to make a RHD steering box skid. The Savvy one looks like it would fit LHD or RHD, but as said in another thread the cost for shipping that quoted by Savvy was more than three times the price of the skid.

I also get the point you make on the regional forums, but if the UK one was reserved for meet ups and the like there would never have been a single post in it 😉.
