I was scrolling thru Instagram and came across an ad for Summit Offroad. They’re advertising a 10.6 CFM compressor with 50% duty cycle for under $200 and its portable. I like that because I can take it out to use with another vehicle if I’m not in the Jeep or don’t want to take it.

I’ve been pretty dead set on a York setup but this one has me thinking otherwise. My only hesitation is the duty cycle. Thoughts?

It sounds good on paper. It draws up to 90 amps which is the highest amp draw I have seen. CFM @29 psi is good too.
 
I'm interested in this. Does anybody have specs/dimensions? I've got a modified Smittybilt compressor mounted in my engine bay and would love to be able to double the capacity if there is room.
 
The 90A seems high to me too but idk

I tried to compare it to a twin ARB, but ARB only give amps at 0 psi. I have this one. It looks like the Smittybilt and draws 45 amps max. It is not inconceivable for a twin to draw 90 amps. The cfm rating at 29 psi for the Summit is 6.36 and the ARB twin is 4.68.

These are half the amps even under load and 100% duty cycle.

I know a guy who has one and he swears by it. He runs 40s and says it is significantly faster than his previous ARB twin and smittybuilt. I havent seen it in action yet.

That's good to hear! I may just pull the plug on it and be the guinea pig for the forum. I'll start taking donations now :ROFLMAO:

Forget that 10.6 CFM rating, that's a totally misleading rating. Your lungs can put out 10 CFM into a 0 psi back pressure (open air). 6.36 CFM into 29 psi (like into an aired up tire) tire) is the real spec and that's actually a really great CFM rating. That's a great deal for a 6 CFM compressor.
 
According to the weight, this thing is beefy! At 26lbs, it's only 4 pounds lighter than this

I run a CO2 tank. But I have room for it.
It doesn't take much room, mine is up & out of the way adjacent to the rear roll bar. I still miss my York belt-driven compressor I installed onto my previous TJ but my homemade CO2 tank fills tires just as fast, which is to say all four 35" tires tires refilled from 8 to 25 psi in around 5 minutes total.

That 10.6 CFM @0 PSI is a bullshit/misleading/non-realistic rating. Even our lungs can put out more than that in a minute blowing into the open air but our lungs couldn't even get more than 1-2 psi of pressure into a tire. That's what that 0 PSI means, that it's not pumping into the resistance compressed air presents when refilling a tire. A real CFM rating includes working into a known pressure like 20 psi.

My bet, given that it's also a single-cylinder design, that it's no more than half of that and more likely to be 3-4 CFM into the air pressure a tire pushes back with.
