Tub rust

Personally I'd get a heavy wire wheel for a drill or grinder and get rid of all that rust, every bit. Then I'd give it one or two coats of brush or roll on rustoleum professional from a quart can. Pick whatever color your local home depot has in stock. It'll hold up fine under there. A million times better than nothing but obviously not the best. Pretty much exactly what @LONGJP2 just posted. The brush on rustoleum is cheap and goes on quick and thick, that's why I suggest it. No masking or over spray to worry about.
Yeah I think I’ll try to take care of it now, instead of regretting it later. I found a can of rustoleum brush-on paint that has the stop-rust stuff built in. It’s green but luckily the color won’t matter under the sound deadening

Update: began grinding down the rust. I now have a new drainage hole 😭 guess it was worse than I thought

Should I finish grinding it out and then see if I can have a welding or auto body shop put a small patch in? I currently have COVID so idk how I would make that work

There's a thread floating around here about using panel adhesive to repair rust holes in the floors. It's high strength adhesive/epoxy used in new vehicle construction and works great if you don't want to weld. Obviously it would be a patch depending on how serious the rust is on the bottom but it's an option to consider if you aren't going to do that at this point.

So similar to bondo? I’ve repaired rust with bondo before, it always comes out looking like shit when I do it

I don’t need another issue after this
Errr, it's a TJ, I've got some really bad news for you.

No, you get steel and it's like epoxy that glues the steel in place like a patch. I'll try to find that thread so you can see it in action.

This is a great example of floor repair using panel adhesive. It starts around post #34 on his build thread.
Wow, thanks! Since it’s such a small area I’m hoping I can just use normal steel sheets instead of a whole replacement floor pan. I need to have this finished by Friday unfortunately so hopefully I can get that to work

TJ tubs are 3/16” steel right? Would Home Depot/Lowes sell plates that would work?

Yep, a small patch would work. I think the tub is really thin metal, 20 gauge or something. 3/16" steel is overkill in my opinion. I think even 1/16" would be quite a bit more than what you've got but don't quote me on that. You'll probably find something closer to the right thickness at your local home improvement place.

Great! Thanks. I’ll see if I can confirm the spec somewhere

On my Jeep I've used Scotch-Weld, it ain't cheap. If you're on a budget you could use construction adhesive from Home Depot and it'll probably work out just fine. There is a whole spectrum of repair options out there from bailing wire and licence plates to replacing the whole tub. Who's to say what the right answer is? Not me that's for sure.

Even more under my parking brake lever…

Guess I’m gonna try the sabe with the plate. Might need more sheet metal tho

Also broke the head off the bolt, might have to cut the nut off and use a new nut on the bottom
