If i swipe down from the top of my Samsung phone i get this screen...

Screenshot_20220411-201920_One UI Home.jpg

How can I get to this screen "without" swiping down from the top?

I have a cover on my phone with a protective edge that makes it a huge PITA to get that swipe down to work. I have to swipe like 8 times before it will open that screen.

And I'm always in need of going to that screen to end a call.

Because if I go to the home screen, when on a call, to look at something else while I'm on the call, the call disappears into that green line at the top of the screen. That shows your still on a call. And even when I go back into the phone app it doesnt show anyplace to hang up the call.

This is also to complicated to ask about in a google search. Lol. So I'm asking it here.

Thank you for any help you might have. :)

I don't know how to get the pull down screen without swiping down, but if you hold down on the three line button on the bottom left, it pulls up all the open apps. If you are in a call, that app will pull up as an option, click it and then hang up.

That button may be a feature added by your device mfg. I have a Google phone with vanilla Android and I have to swipe up from the bottom to get the open app list... And that's probably just as problematic for the OP.

Ill try opening the three line button. But i dont recall if it gives you the option to hang up. I know when i go into the phone app from the homescreen it does not give me the option to hang up. While on a call.

I also need this screen for when i want to set my phone to silent or vibrate. I know that must be accessible in settings. But its nice to just have that down swipe and there it is. But again, that down swipe is a bitch for me. I have to swioe several times to get it to work.

On vanilla android you can go to the home screen and swipe down pretty much anywhere to open the quick settings menu, it doesn't have to be from the top bar. Though if you're on a call I think you can just tap near the icon in the top bar and get back to it.

I have Android 12 and it has a setting to allow notifications from either top swiping down or swiping down anywhere on the home screen. To change that setting hold down the outside boarder of the home screen and it will display the slide screens. Press the settings gear and scroll down to "swipe down for notification panel". That setting when enabled allows down swiping anywhere on the home screen to bring up the notifications. Hope that helps.

That did it. Thank god. I didnt have to hold down the outside boarder of the home screen. I just went into home screen in settings. But it worked!

Awesome! Thank you so much!!

Have you considered a different phone cover/case?
Not really because its the middle weight verson of the Otterbox. And i can't tell you how many times it's saved my phone. If i had a dime for everytime i heard about someone in my family or just people in general breaking their phones or screens because they dropped them. I'd be a millionaire. And with att the phone depreciates on insurance. And you get paid less and less to replace it as the phone gets older. Which is not in direct proportion to how much the reolacement value is. Its a $1300 phone new. Which amazes me and disgusts me at the same time.

good grief, what phone is that? Guessing it must have the screen all the way up to the top edge of the phone body so there's no way to put it in a case without interfering with that swipe function?

I buy flagship phones when they're about 2-3 years old. It's toward the end of when you can still get them NIB, but they still perform better than new mid-grade phones and by that point they cost about $250. Currently using a Pixel 3.

I gave the new Nokia a shot because they use vanilla Android, but it was buggy, and I ran without a case, and then it fell 5 feet and bounced off it's side on the corner of the terminal box of a refrigeration compressor and busted the screen. I run a case on my Pixel 3 now, but it doesn't come anywhere near covering the top edge of the screen.

The otterbox cases are the best. I've had one on every ohone for a few generations now. My phone is the Samsung S20 Note Ultra. I used to have a 2 or 3 generation older phone too. But i think they started messing with its ability to make calls and slowed it down. Just my paranoid theory. Nect time im switching to either google fi or tmobile. And using the same phone. I was really happy with my okd samsung s8 or 9 note. It had a removable battery and 3.5 jack. Big screen. Loved it. Cheap too.

Ive always put otterbox cases on my phones. They're a bulkier than most but they do a great job at protection.

They have three levels of case too. By size. I think Commuter is the thinnest. I think i have the middle size. So you can choose how much protection you want. Or how thick they are basically.

I had an otterbox on an early Galaxy S, maybe a 2 or 3?...before the Note was even a thing. I didn't like the bulk and I don't like Samsung's bloatware. I had an S6 Active at one point, but the screen stopped working the day I left for a work trip so I went to the Cricket store and bought a $70 phone and haven't used a Samsung since.

I have a $13 "Spigen" brand case from Amazon and it's protected my Pixel 3 just fine, and isn't as bulky as the Otter.

I've been using Samsungs for the better part of 15 years or more. I may have had an s6. But i know i had an s8. Because i still have it. All have been great phones for me. Especially when you could carry extra batteries. And have a universal 3.5 audio jack. Not to mention you can still use sd cards for additional memory. Apple can suck it! Lol.

My first two computers were Apple. But I much prefer the openness of a pc. All the software that is available for it. And the fact that i can build my own. I've been doing that for 20 years.

My current pc is like 10(?) years old. And its still going strong. Cost about $650 in parts too. I put it together in about 2 hours. Apple can suck it with their prices too. I can't believe the prices people will pay for something with limited software and that you cant even do simple repairs on yourself. But i guess thats the modern age. You can't fix a car anymore either.

I had several other brands before Samsung. I was just going thru old boxes this weekend and found 6 of my favorite cellphone.

The Nokia 6590!

Laugh if you want. But that phone is a fourth of the size of my smartphone. And had the best audio clarity of any phone I've ever used. Back then you had full duplex audio. Which means you could not only hear the voice on the other end. But you could hear your voice too. Like on a landline. Although i dont even know if they offer that on landlines anymore. It's been a decade since I've had a landline.

But i loved that phone. It was so small. And got such good reception. I used cheap swap meet headsets with an earbud and little boom mic that came down to beside your mouth. You could hear the tone in your voice. You could tell how loud or soft you were talking. It made ohone conversations so much better. Now we just yell into it. Based on how loud our surroundings are. I think we gave up alot when we let duplex audio die.

And the phone was bone simple. This was just when texting started. But it sucked for texting with that limited keypad. But i loved that phone. I brought one of them up and sat it on our coffee table. I keep staring at it longingly. Lmao. The good old days.

My son whos 22 loves it. I wish you could still use old phones. But the networks turn them into bricks within a few years now. Which is another scam i wont get into.

my first smartphone was an iPhone 3G, issued to me by my employer...that was the last apple device I've had. My wife still uses an iPhone (8 i think), and I experience rage every time she needs my help doing something on it. Or if I need to interact with it in any way whatsoever, such as if I need to get photos or videos off of it after a vacation.

and yeah...I miss the OG Nokia days. I think I had a 6590 like that, or at least a similar one. I customized it with a legit Nokia branded housing that was red. It took tons of abuse, and none of my free time.

Pixel 3 was great. Arguably the best Nexus/Pixel phone since the Nexus 5 IMHO. My battery was getting kinda meh on mine so I gave it to my mom, skipped the 4 for obvious reasons, and have a Pixel 5 now. I ordered both the 6 and 6 Pro and planned to give my wife the one I didn't like. Got the regular 6, tried it for a couple of weeks, then gave it to my wife and cancelled the order for the 6 Pro. Too damn big. I hate the yuge phone trend. Makes my hands look small 😉
