Homelink transmitter installation

It's what I call my red-neck cutting brake. When doing a front dig with the rear axle disengaged and unlocked (I guess it is an open axle at that point, Jerry :)), and the brake on one wheel engaged, it will pivot around that wheel.

Not quit a hydro cutting brake, but it was a fun little project to do.

I joined two stock levers...

...and split the cable at the equalizer.

I got the levers close enough together that you can still easily engage both simultaneously like a regular parking brake.
That's pretty slick. (y)

I'm wanting to do this in our 01 TJ. If I go the mirror route what cars am I looking for at the pick n pull? Also on earlier post it was mentioned the need to add in an adapter to work with newer openers.... I'm guessing if I get new enough mirror or console mount homelink I won't need that, but what years am I looking for as well? My 2012 yukon factory homelink works with our opener, so I'm guessing at least 2012 and newer, but can I go older as well? I'm also going this route in our 95 yukon as well, but the TJ will be the guinea pig as its simpler to mess with.

I just recently installed a mirror from a large Nissan SUV. I think it was a mid-2000's pathfinder.

I pulled all the mirror harness out all the way down to the plug and socket in the A-pillar. Then snagged the temp sensors off the radiator support, including the plug and a few inches of the harness (there were 2 sensors on the support so I took them both but only ended up using the gray one).

I used a Nissan service manual I found online to splice into the Jeep harness with the service manual in the resource center here. I replaced the Jeep plug and socket on the dash and radiator support with the Nissan unit. Even though the Nissan had the homelink wired into a constant 12v I used a keyed source so someone can't open the door if I leave it in the driveway. I have pics of my splice info -pm me and I can send them over for you.

I used it for the first time yesterday after bringing it out of hibernation. So handy!

Google Kia

B2062-ADUP1 many Kia dealers online sell this homelink mirror for around $15. Comes with instructions and the electrical plug.

Just saw this. I googled and do see them for around $15, but to be honest, I'm a bit skeptical of that price. I also watched a video of someone installing a homelink mirror in his kia and he spent $250 on his Kia mirror. Hmmm.... I do appreciate and I'll look into more or I might hit a salvage and see what I find!

No need to be skeptical, I bought one and put it in my Jeep and it works great. Kia has these listed as an accessory/ upgrade for some of their models that are 4-5 years old maybe they just want to move them

I took your word and ordered one, it took about 3 tries over a few weeks to get the order to actually place, I'm guessing stock is running low. In any case, it arrived today. Now I have to figure out how I'm going to run the wires and what the sticky pads and the cream colored doodad is for.

If any of you that ran a mirror have pointers on how you'd run the electrical and where you tapped into the circuitry I appreciate it. If not I'm sure I'll figure it out and I have some add a fuses that should help. This is 3 wires....ground is obvious, but then there is a black wire (guessing 12v hot) and a black with white stripe (also guessing 12v hot). My guess is one is power with key off and the other power with key on (for the homelink), but I'm totally guessing here. Only instructions are for programming of said mirror.

Thanks for the info on the mirror, it was $20-25 shipped.

Now off to look for schematics to the 01 Jeep TJ Sport and I guess a Kia homelink mirror wire up.

Ok, I figured out the rubber pads are to adhere the harness under the factory Kia trim and the plastic clip is to hold that trim for airbag or something like that. In any case don't need either really for my install. Still haven't figured out how I know which wire is always 12v and which is switched.

Google gentex mirror wiring and you’ll find a diagram. I ran the wires up into the trim around the windshield and then down the right side to the fusebox

I've done that and wires aren't seemingly matching up even with an exact match on all numbers on back of mirror.

Being as there's 3 wires, I know the one with round ring terminal is ground. The other two are questionable. Obviously they are 12v+. I think the diagrams are saying the homelink should be 12v constant, which I don't want. With that I would think maybe just tie the two together and make only one connection or at the least just run both to switched 12v. But there's also a reverse feature.

There are 4 wires in the actual mirror harness. A black, 2 white and a green. I do believe the black goes to the ground on the add on harness that came with. I can't recall on the other two as I just stepped away.

On a Kia thread a poster said he had to add a wire for the homelink to the harness.

I'm sure when I start hooking it up I'll figure it out as long as I don't fry something if one is for the reverse feature. I'm guessing that u undims the mirror when in reverse.

I stand corrected on the wire colors. From the mirror to it's plug it's gray, white, green, nothing, black. Then from the extension harness, the gray is NOT used, there is a black with white stripe matched to white on the harness, then green goes to all black. Both of those are spade connectors, so attach to the fuse panel. Then the black goes to a black, which is ground on the extension cable.
