Howdy, I really need some suggestions for a good single din stereo mounting kit that will actually HOLD the stereo in place. I've tried two so far and pretty much one good bounce and the stereo comes loose in the rack. The factory rack was broken so I tried replacing it with a couple of different ones that fit my 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ. Basically, both are really nothing more than a faceplate bezel and cannot support the weight of my typical single din unit, so a couple of bumps and a loose stereo. Can anyone suggest an installation kit to fit that is more "heavy duty" and provides support of the unit from the sides or maybe top/bottom and not just faceplate? My stereo is typical single din JVC KD unit. It looks like the factory rack had side extensions from the faceplate extending back into the dash that would allow the stereo unit to be attached to the sides by screws.

I appreciate you suggestions. :)

For what it’s worth, my bracket and radio was “professionally” installed. Lasted about a year before the vibrations cracked it.

I bought one from Amazon (link below) and it is holding up well. The phone holder at the bottom acts as a support…Mind you, I did add extra support in thin gaps with spacers & 3m Double Sided Sticky Pads.

I've got a spare Metra 6503 that came out of my 2004. Your dash is probably slightly different since Metra calls for a 6229 for a 1999 model. Not sure if the 6503 would work in a 1999. It's yours if you wanted to try it.

Just installed this double din in my 99.

Parts from Crutchfield.

Modified per their directions to fit double din.

3 of 4 screws holding the radio in and the dash does not fit flush with the radio or the HVAC controls but is good enough for me.

I’ve got the same radio. Little off subject, but can you kill the warning band when the camera pops up in reverse?

bought a cheap one from ebay for my 06 and it’s all good. can’t say that for the pos alpine head unit though. alpine is not what they used to be. it has to be the most difficult thing to change the settings on it.
