Overheating followed by radiator explosion

That looks like the early inverted flare style. It will or should look like this down in that brass looking part that the tube nut screws into.

The radiator above with the brass hose barb sticking out of the cooler ports has what looks like a steering gear fitting but the o-ring part is in the trans port, not on the fitting.

I've been searching for an adapter for a bit without any luck. I may have the formed rubber hose section I can send you for the right side port if I don't find an adapter solution. The left side is just cut the flare off, and use a piece of trans rubber line.

Gotcha. So I'll order the barb fitting radiator.

Rockauto shows https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/mopar,55037653AB,radiator,2172 with a part# 55037653AA

RockAuto pic shows barb fitting, so is there a difference between 55037653AA and 55037653AB?

Trying to find the best price. Sending you a PM.

Thanks, Blaine.

The radiator I bought from 1800-radiators has those ports. Radiator is for both MT and AT.

I'll get some pics if you want.

Btw... the radiator is a Koyorad. The jeep parts manager suggested this, since the mopar ones were backordered 6 months out at the time. (Spring 2022)

Yea, send them. I'd appreciate it.

Finally got the radiator in after many places cancelled my order from being out of stock.

Looks like I'll have to cut the flare/fitting and use transmission line for the barb fittings. Is it recommended to bubble flare the end of the metal hose?

Hydraulic hose shop wanted $250 to make new hoses for me out of stainless with none of the factory bends. Nope.

Blaine, I know you said you have the formed rubber section for the right side port? Is that still the case? I can't PM you until I have 20 posts.

Should this concern me? There wasn’t much protection in the shipping box other than a sheet of bubble wrap. Mounts fine but the dented fins might be an issue.

Used to be there was a tool in every mechanics toolbox called a fin comb. It was used to straighten out the fins from slight damage like this. I'd just use a pocket screwdriver and carefully straighten the bent fins.

I don't think it will work like that. They dropped the package in shipping and slammed that side mounting flange into the core. The outer tube and fin section then distorted inward and collapsed the next row of fins over. The two outer tubes are now curved.

I suspect that trying to straighten that back out will cause more damage than just running it as is.

Yea, those last few rows are now curved and could possibly restrict flow. I filed a claim with the seller, so hopefully I get an RMA. Not acceptable for a $400 part to be shipped in a box with less than desirable packing. Should've been wrapped with heavy cardboard around the radiator as well as bubble wrap, then inserted into the shipping box.

Trying to make a flare on this line to keep the rubber hose in place, but the line is just too thick and the tubing keeps slipping out of the flaring adapter no matter how hard I tighten it.

Should I just add a double clamp here? Still need to cut a little off the rubber hose I have.

A compression to hose barb fitting would work for this. Check the hose and tubing size you have to get the correct one.
