What did you do to your TJ today?

I feel like I've seen those before. Are they copies of a classic mag?

The wheels are a kind of different take on a classic style slot mag.

Think it was these...

Ended up on a joy ride through saguaro National park west tonight.

Didn’t break out the camera until I was almost back on the interstate. But here’s a brief clip showing how smooth & stable Blaine’s outboarding handled the turbo playing in overdrive.

Got the new KBD flares on yesterday. I dig em. Had to run and pick up some 10-32 nuts/washers/split washers for the backside of the bolts as whoever installed the previous flares had drilled most of the rivnuts out. The kit also comes with push-in plastic rivets, but I went with using the bolts.

Happy with the look!

How did yours turn out? Any leaks?

No, I spent about 2 hrs cleaning both the housing and engine TStat surfaces. Even when I thought it was good I would get more off with a new razor. I also noticed a little pitting on the housing cover surface. Did your gasket come with a bead of silicone on it, if so it faces the housing.

I might have to redo everything today. I'm going to go out and try to get the thermostat housing to seal properly. I got a new housing late yesterday. I thought I had gotten all the surfaces clean yesterday. I'll try again today.

And the Fel Pro gaskets that I have been using have had a bead of silicone on them.

Ah yes, good call. I wasn't even thinking of those, but I've seen them before too. I prefer the way the rib or line goes between the windows on the originals vs the they way it goes through the windows on mine. But like I mentioned, I bought for specs and not style. Tough to find a 15x7 with the backspacing I was looking for.

I think the new wheels are pretty sharp as well as being something different. They've got a classic/throwback look and, unlike the Ravine, you won't be seeing a dozen other Jeeps sporting the same. Not knocking the Ravine (I've got 5! ;)), I actually think it's a good looking wheel.

I don't know if you have time or the tools to do this, but using one of those roto-loc scrubby things to clean the surfaces worked really rell for me, after scraping the majority of it with a razor. Stuff the hole in the block with some rags or something to keep debris out.

Also, if you have a metal ruler or straight edge, you can use it to see if your thermostat housing mating surface is flat.

In the comment just above, I just posted a video that the housing that I was using yesterday was warped.

I definitely need some help with the leaking thermostat housing.

That's what it is doing.

Thermostat housing
Thermostat
Gasket - Fel-Pro from my local auto parts store

I replaced the water pump and replaced the thermostat, gasket, and thermostat housing while I was in there. This is my first time doing something major like this, and it went surprisingly well until I got to test it. It is currently leaking distilled water from the bottom of the thermostat housing. I've tried to reseat the thermostat and housing at least twice after I discovered the initial leak. I was very, very careful to not disturb the thermostat since it sits in there just by gravity and it is easily moved.

I've tried 3 times now and I need help.

Anything else I should try to fix this leak from the thermostat housing?

Did you clean the engine block where the thermostat sits, and by clean, really really clean it before you put on the new gasket? Also make sure the new T stat hosing is perfectly flat and not warped.
You may need a dab of RTV to make sure the T stat isn’t sliding down.

Last resort, and you *shouldn't need it, but you wouldn’t be the first one here to use some
You know how yesterday I put on the thermostat housing 3 times and it leaked each time?

That's why.

if you don’t want to clean your old one…I didn’t….Genuine Mopar Thermostat Housing... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VWXH9E/?tag=wranglerorg-20

Putting a new soft top on it
Cant believe how inexpensive they are
Can buy a new one every year at these prices 🤣

After watching enough unboxing videos, Im convinced several companies use the exact same vendor, and charge different prices and tag it

I bought this one 2 weeks before the accident and was impressed with it… it was destroyed in the accident but I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again…. $150 shipped!
