Daily Driver, Go Where I Want To Build

One handed start to finish on the Auto setting. It's odd and different. But not at all bad to use.

Here is my only criticism of the saw. I do not understand why the slider switch isn't in line with my finger.

The slider should be turned 90° and positioned lower where the grip is.

Now that I have a jigsaw, I can continue with the reverse lights.

Using the template as a stencil, I lightly dusted on some spray paint to start the rough cut in the valance.

A hole gets drilled near each corner for the jigsaw.

Then most is the black rectangle gets cut out with the jigsaw, leaving about 1/8" of aluminum for the router to clean up.

This is the jigsaw blade for aluminum I used.

The second pair of bolt holes get laid out and drilled.

Using the installed valance as a drill guide, the tub gets drilled and four nutserts installed.

That is it for today. More tomorrow!

Really beautiful work, JJ. Nice use of the template and pattern bit. Do you do woodworking?

Next is to lay out the screw holes for the lights.

The cutout in the valance has a small amount of play side to side. To center the light, I added a few layers of tape to either side.

Blaine reminded me to find a drill bit that is the same size as the mounting hole and use that to transfer the hole centers onto the valance.

After a quick spin, I used the smaller drill bit for the tap to complete the holes. Then tapped the valance for threads

For weeks now, I have been agonizing about the spare tire snubber. A future goal is to move the spare into the bed. I did not like the idea of drilling a hole in the valance for the snubber that would be left empty and out of place after the snubber goes away.

I went ahead and added another pair of holes in the center of the valance.

Then I made a removable snubber mount that holds the snubber off center to match the spare tire.

Now, some day in the future, the snubber can completely disappear without a trace!

You told me to get the Dewalt step bits since they are better than the Milwaukee versions.

I did. Specifically, the DeWalt spiral cut impact step bits. I haven't used anything better. That one lives with the work tools and wasn't nearby.

Success!

No pictures of the wiring. The aux lights are switched with a relay that lives inside the rear torque box. I drilled a hole straight out the front of the torque box to pick up the reverse light circuit to trigger the relay and also ground. Then the remainder of the wiring follows the main wiring harness forward and up to the battery for power. There is also an unused bypass circuit that will be connected to the the SwitchPros distribution panel when the highlines happen in the near future. I hope.
