What did you do to your TJ today?

Funny...I had cramp in my right calf for a bit after standing on the brake pedal and it took a good two hours for my asshole to unpucker itself as well...🥴

While she did stop surprisingly fast for the lump she is, had it been wet I would have been fecked. It took heavy application to lock 'em up but I surely would have gone skating once they did.

These make a HUGE difference in those situations.

This should be a warning to all on the dangers of wheeling at the mall. ;)

I don't really do malls, was actually on my way home from the gun shop (with a new lever gun in the back)...we still have a few in People's Republic of Maryland... :D

These make a HUGE difference in those situations.

Actually, been thinking about them since this afternoon's brown moment. (y)

It's really straightforward actually. It can be difficult to lift the head out of there on your own if you don't have an engine hoist or something similar (it's heavy... I want to say 74lbs), but the procedure is cut & dry.

Remove manifolds, remove anything in the way of the head, unhook any sensors, remove valve cover. Take the rocker arms & pushrods out (keep in order if reusing), unbolt & remove head, clean surface, install new head.

Everything goes back in reverse order. Just keep a list of torque values and stuff nearby, remember to put sealant on the threads of the bolt on the driver side front head bolt that goes into a water jacket. I think i have enough pics of when I did it that they could potentially help with any questions (some are in my build thread I think). I can post them up at some point if anyone thinks they would help.

It's really not that straightforward. How do you remove a manifold? It maybe straightforward to a master mechanic, but surely not to a layman. There are all sorts of things over it, on it, and around it. Although I would never attempt a job like this myself, it might make for interesting read, and maybe there is some a how to might help.

Here's the simple video. Plenty of more in depth rabbit holes are linked from this one.

If you go off road and do hard-ish trails they are a great investment.

Here's a comparison between an open diff and a limited slip. Some TJ/LJ models came with a factory limited slip differential (LSD). Due to the clutches in a LSD, it can slip in offroad situations where you have lifted a tire.

This has been at the back of my mind since I got her. Tessie's pretty much a daily driver, though I work from home so only put maybe 1.5-2k on her so far....but this is the first time anything like this has happened. No longer at the back of my mind, possibly due to the physics of extreme braking :D

A member here posted a video of their TJ getting hit in a similar fashion some months ago (believe they got dumped on their side), that clip has been replaying in my head on loop for quite awhile since...

No doubt… seat belt saved my life that day!

A friend and I installed the Yukon Ya Wu-08 hub kit. I went ahead and ditched the 1/2" studs in favor of 9/16". It was actually fairly easy except separating the axle ujoints, and mangling a hub seal.
New wheels and tires too.
I just need to modify the tire carrier to fit the 5x5.5 spare.
I bought the kit last May for $1400, I just wanted to wait for a day when the weather was nice to get it done .

That's the one! Pretty sure that's what I uttered as well, followed by "WTF!" as stared at the idiot through the passenger door window. Another couple of inches and I'm pretty sure Tessie would have been a write off.

Still not sure how the other driver figured it was a good time to go given I was the first in a line of about 6 vehicles moving at speed. There was no way they were going to make that turn without collecting someone.

I LOVE my Cooper STT Pro's!!!!!

I had a set on an earlier Rubi- tough tires, not very loud, drove well.....no complaints considering how aggressive they were-

Glad you chimed in- reinforces my choice.

How’s your front track bar?

I had an issue with one spot on one road. Slight incline, slight left curve, 50-ish MPH, and a slight bump where the pavement went over a bridge. The wheel would oscillate mildly and then settle back down. I had a shop replace the track bar and no sign of it since.
It's pretty much new. I haven't gone on any knarly off roading areas since I put it in when I did the lift on it about a year ago.
