What did you do to your TJ today?

Washed it yesterday. Today I took it out on the interstate to further test my temps without the winch mounted. Got a screenshot of the OBD gauges that showed the max temp. Then a pic of the dash.

Cruise set-GPS monitored at 75 mph.
14 miles one way.
5th gear--(not 6th--bc 33's and 3.73's)
Max temp was 213 going uphill....I think I fixed my issue.
I'll keep the winch handy for when I want to go play, but for now I can take my wife up to Seneca Rocks/Spruce Knob/Dolly Sods without overheating problems.

I didn't want the rest of my Jeep's paint to end up like the hood cowl that I just replaced, so I spared no expense ($35 shipped) and bought a cover for it. I even put the stupid HOA permit on the outside so the a$$holes don't tow it away. I can't park it near the woods and let the mice eat up any more wiring at night.

NON TJ Update. @Chris feel free to remove this.
After fixing my fuel pump wiring thanks to @macleanflood's help with finding the broken wiring issues today, I got a call this afternoon that the masses I had removed on the 12th weren't colon cancer. I have other issues but nothing that can't be fixed. Thank GOD EVERYDAY!!!

That is great news!!!!

swapped the rubicon harness in, and also fixed my custom export taillight mod. Some reason from 03 to 06 they swapped which side the 3 and 4 pin connectors are for the taillights…

Also was still having a no crank issue, sure enough I look down and the solenoid flange wire was off. Seems like someone used a cheap crimp end to “fix”. Will need to see what it takes to get the right one.

Headlight / turn signal wiring should be the last of buttoning up to do.

Should be able to drive it tomorrow!

Spent my evening trying to figure out why my electric fan wouldn't come on. Was confused when I realized the wire from the thermostat had never been connected to anything. Traced the trigger wire till it got lost in behind the firewall. Then I found this little gem. White wire was dangling. Apparently the fan trigger wire was just stuffed into the fuse block to be permanently on. I hate wiring. Now I have more to do.

Trying a gasket seal on the leading edge of the hood to control airflow better to see if the radiator performs better at high speeds. Left a gap on the passenger side for air intake. We had a nice rain storm this afternoon that cooled it down to 65°F negating some of my test. The hood didn't appear to lift at 75mph as it normally would.

Uphill never exceeded 208°F on the main ECT today. 223°F last time, but ambient was 87°F. I still need to look at the data for the temp delta across the radiator up at the top. Last time the outlet hit ~195°F. I think it peaked at ~183° F today. My fan comes on full speed at outlet ECT 190°F.

I had a HUGE delta of 80°F between upper and lower ECT sensors coming down I70 at 70mph, but I'm sure the thermostat was more or less closed at that point.

FWIW, my hood hasn't noticeably fluttered like it used to in heavy cross winds since installing a hood louver a few years ago (and a new latch on one side). My hood also no longer gets scolding hot to the touch after driving around.

My ECTs vary under load depending on the ambient temp, cloud cover, my speed, and mood the rig seems to be in.

I couldn't tell you how many times I thought I noticed a significant operating difference only to see the patterns on my A-pillar gauges eventually prove otherwise. Not saying you are wrong, but I'd be cautious about getting your hopes up based on a small sample size.

I've been seriously considering having a hood louvred at a local hotrod shop in the right area. I know this has IAT and pressure relief benefits. I want a particular finished look to it. Kinda thinking just on the driver side like some of the old E-type variants. But haven't had the time to dedicate to that project idea.
Mine doesn't get hot to the touch since I installed the DEI insulation for sound deadening. But under the hood is obviously no cooler.

For sure. A promising first drive, but not good apples to apples conditions. Headed up to Wyoming to backpack after work this afternoon. The 80-85mph stretches from Laramie to Rawlins will be a good chance to see how the hood behaves at those speeds.
