Only down a partial tooth. It'll be fine.
The splines however...twisted splines make for fun c clip extraction.

With the Eaton longer bolts are needed to attach the ring gear because the flange on the Eaton is thicker than the stock carrier. Speaking from experience. I'd pull the cover and check the bolts.

Our 1SG at my first and only PDS looked just like Wesley Snipes in "Blade" all the way down to his haircut and sunglasses. Naturally, we called him Blade.
Keep a close eye on the socket for the winch controller. I've had 2 of them corrode so far. Even with a cover on it
