Anyone tried to convert rubicon air lockers over to cable operated?

I think the best way to convert the Rubicon air lockers to cable operated would be to use a cable actuated plunger rod to activate a 12v push button switch to turn on the compressor. One of these per locker.

Another idea!

Use a lever operated push/pull cable that moves the piston on a pneumatic cylinder to pump and remove air from the Rubicon actuator.

Your time and money is better spent converting the Rubicon air lockers to aftermarket lockers.

I, in no way advocate nor condone this idea. Just highlighting its existence

There is a guy out there who is trying to and has made the Rubi Lockers cable operated. I found these posts about 4 months ago and held on to them for a rainy day. Enjoy.

That's a lot of effort for a locker that can't be fixed when the rest of it breaks.

Here's one where he goes a little more in depth.

Without getting into the "should" debate, it's always impressive to see people finding unique solutions to problems. Hats off to the guy for what he can come up with and build.

Nothing against what he is doing but he has a few challenges to overcome with his engagement side. If he doesn't spring load the engagement side so the flip lever compresses a spring(s), then it won't shift until there is differential action that turns one side more than the other to line up the clutch teeth to engage them. On the bench with them lined up is good for video, not so much in real life where you have to turn to get one side moving further than the other.

If he has already figured that out, good on him.

When you go through his posts about it, he says it's out running trails and being tested with no issues so far. So there may be something of the sort that just isn't shown.

The original OX lockers "worked" with no issues as well and they were sans load springs. That is until there were posts from every owner on the forums sniveling about having to hold the shifter while turning until the teeth lined up and they could lock the shifter in. Think of it like rev matching a manual trans to shift it. Until the gears line up, it won't shift.

If he was really smart, he would remove the limited slip gears so they don't break and ruin all his hard work. It would not be that hard to machine up a replacement air actuator. I could do it but I won't because the rest of the locker and inability to rebuild one makes that a losing endeavor.
