I have a 2005 TJ and want to get a snorkel kit. It floods pretty bad just with

normal rains where I live.

I have KC round lights mounted on either side of the windshield. I was told that is also where the snorkel gets mounted and would need to move the lights...

Anyone know of a good snorkel kit that I can keep my lights where they are at?

Thanks in advance.

Where in St.Petersburg floods so badly during a normal rain that you need a snorkel?

Have you waterproofed all of your electronics?

I live in South Florida. I also use my Jeep as part of my job rescuing people that are stranded when it floods.

The comment you made was of course funny, but I would appreciate feed back that is helpfull.

Thanks again
I'm sure you are already very aware that most people rarely have a real need for a snorkel and make up silly reasons to justify one. Your case is clearly different.

IMO, you have more options with lights than with a functional snorkel. Make the snorkel work and figure out the lights afterwards.

I have the same brackets and a nock off safari snorkel. I recommend getting a real one but it should fit. Mine is running in a slightly different spot now that I have Metalcloak fenders but it would fit even with the stock location. It basically runs up the side of the A pillar.

There must have been a time
when we could have said no.

I do love this forum but man when someone asks a question with regards to what most people here do not like things go the wrong direction fast.

Most Snorkel kits attache to the side of the windshield not causing issues with the light at all. See pic below.
I am also attaching a PDF I save a long time ago when I was considering adding a DIY Snorkel.

If it doesn’t fit into the norm it will get bashed around here by a select few unfortunately. If you disagree or don’t like something keep your fingers off the damn keyboard and move on to the next topic lol why ppl feel the need to create an argument online is beyond me.

Because there should never be any push back against anything questionable.

A snorkel can easily give someone a false sense of capability. I see no problem asking for more information on the intended use. The OP claims to use his personal vehicle for S&R, so this may be an application where function matters. The reality is that most of the time snorkels are intended for fashion propped up with silly justifications, in which case you are more than free to fulfill your cartoon fantasies of preparedness.

I came on here with the same question and was given the advice to save my money. these are 2 pics from fla the black jeep has a snorkel but still had to get towed away as water got into the oil. the other guys run in naples a few times a year

For it's intended use, I see nothing wrong with a snorkel. The issue is (and here's where snorkels get so much of the negative perception from) is that if you're truly submerged in water up past your airbox, you're screwed. That water is the same reason that vehicles are totaled and send to auto auctions... flood damage.

Once that water makes it into your wiring harness, gauge cluster, transmission, and anywhere else it can get into, your TJ will be completely screwed. People seem to think these TJs are old school mechanical diesels that have.

Now from a looks perspective, if snorkels are your thing, then by all means, do your thing! All the snorkels I've seen go around the side of the A-pillar, so I don't think those lights would get in the way anyways.

Personally, I don't care what people do to their Jeep. It's their Jeep.

I will however, question a statement like "It floods pretty bad with just normal rains where I live." when I've lived in the same area for twenty years, experienced several hurricanes, and yet somehow there are still just regular old cars driving around without attachments needed to ford flood waters during a "normal rain".

More often than not, people asking about snorkels are ill-informed of what else is needed in order to protect the Jeep and think the installation instantly allows them to cross hood deep water with zero consequences. If you want it for looks, more power to you, just say so. As the OP clarified, he needs it for rescuing trapped flood victims (still odd that a personal vehicle would be used for that, so I'll just assume that he volunteers for the local CERT group and it's not a job).

I saw nothing wrong with your reply to the OP when you provided a good recommendation and also inquired about flooding since you happen to live there

It has been my observation. I do not see an issue with giving ones 2 cents in addition to answering the question at hand which in this case it was whether the lights would cause an issue with the snorkel. Many times though others have just simply not answered the question at hand but instead add their 2 cents or bash the item/upgrade in question. Those types of thing occur more other in other forums but it seems that slowly it is making its way here. It could very well steer newcomers from here.

For example I personally like my long arm lift but If I were to ask something specific on a long arm lift I will probably get all sorts of negative remarks and comments against it with only a few answers to the question at hand.

I do not see it odd that a personal vehicle is used for search and rescue. My friend Ruben in Colorado is part of the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department. He built his TJ to rescue stranded people during fires and floods up in the area.
