Hello. This is my first Jeep but this is also the first time I plan on modding a vehicle. I’m trying to get a list on everything I’ll need and just want to double check with the fine intelligent folk here. I want to overhaul all the suspension.

I’m looking at getting this here: https://www.currieenterprises.com/CE-9801HSL

I know I will need extended brake lines, so I plan on using some YJ lines. I know I need shocks, I think I’m set on Fox shocks. And correct me if I’m wrong but I think I need this to go with them: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003FXWZT8/?tag=wranglerorg-20

So after all that, I am wondering if I have all the parts I need or if I am missing anything. Will I be okay installing the lift without a SYE and DC Driveshaft? I figured I would get them if I had vibrations, but if I don’t need them because I have an LJ, then I’d like to know.

Thanks in advance.

Until you get your shocks the fine materials used in this product will help cushion the ride and you're drinks will arrive unspilled, all for $8.99. LOL. I'm a stocker so I can't help with your questions but thought I'd assist with your thread title. Good luck and enjoy your Jeep!

Well with a 4" lift that means you will need new tires. As long as you are there, grab some new rims. And now that you are rolling on 35's you'll need to re-gear front and back. As long as you are re-gearing, should put in better axles. Those 35's are gonna need a brake upgrade too ya know. I could go on, but I think you get the point.

What purpose are you building the Jeep for? What size tires do you desire etc.? If this is your first time modifying any vehicle, I would definitely do a good bit of research first to know what you are getting yourself into, costs etc. If you aren’t careful, lifting a Jeep can be like the story about the old lady that swallowed a fly. Sometimes less is better in this case, unless you have really deep pockets!

I’ve had the Jeep since February and have done nothing but research since. I already have 33” tires but they are on there with a 3” body lift. I’m just trying to get rid of the BL and replace it with a quality lift. I just want to make sure I order everything on the first go.

33” tires will be my endgame for now. 35”s in the future when I can afford to regear, strengthen the axles, get a big brake kit, etc.

You'll really, really want a SYE and DC driveshaft. If not, you'll have to drop your transfer case quite a bit with a 4" lift. I wouldn't bother putting a 4" lift on until I had everything, and that includes the SYE and DC driveshaft.

In addition, you'd be wise to put on a 1" body lift and 1" motor mount lift at the same time, as the MML will lessen the rear driveshaft angle.

You will want those rear shock re-location brackets you linked to.

For body lift and MML, I recommend the following:

Understood thank you. So with an SYE and DCD and my list above, is that all I will need?

Yes. The body lift and MML aren't absolutely necessary, but it's something I would highly suggest, especially given how cheap they are.

Have you considered running the Zone 3" or 4.25" combo lift? It will allow you to run 33" tires and save you $$$ over what you are considering. An LJ can run 33" tires without adjustable control arms or a SYE in some cases. Nothing wrong with the other stuff but at the end of the day the guy next to you on the same trail with the zone kit has a few thousand extra dollars in his wallet. The Zone stuff is less expensive not because it's cheap but because it is well thought out for our Jeeps. The Currie stuff is full bore and that's fine too but certainly not needed for what most people end up using their Jeeps for.

@pagrey nicely summed up what I was leading up to and why. I was thinking BDS 3” (same mother company as Zone, upper end division with better warranty, supposedly) and with the Fox shocks. Then do the 1“ MML and body lift that @Chris recommended. On an LJ, you’d have a nice 4” lift and likely without any pinion angle issues. Maybe upgrade the tc skid (tummy tuck) and gas tank skid plates and do some rust proofing while your in there. Also, perhaps tend to the exhaust while your in there (the midpipe precats typically go bad around 100k on the newer TJ/LJ’s). You could likely do all this for the same price as the lift you mentioned and still have a real nice setup.

...Orrrr I could just buy the Currie 4” lift :p

I have the money for it so why not? I intend to take this out on the rocks and wheel it so why not just get the best and be done with it?

Also thanks @mots for the suggestions. Good call on the exhaust, I just had to replace the 02 sensors too.

I’d go for whatever makes you happy. If you really want 35’s in the future, then the 4” Currie + 1” MML + Body lift would be a good way to get started. If you do go 4” suspension lift though, just be ready to do the SYE and DCD too at the same time, or be ready to drop the t-case (silly if you spend that much on a lift though). Definitely more than one way to skin a TJ!

If you have the money then you can't really go wrong whith the Currie kit. It's just most of us here generally enjoy trying to piece together a good system while trying to keep the credit card from bursting into flames.♨️

I have a set of used springs, Core 4x4 control arms, rough country adjustable track bars, Rancho rsx shocks, ZJ steering linkage, I still have to fine tune a few things and adjust the drive shaft angles, it sure rides nice compared to my CJ and YJ...shocks make or break the ride. I also went with the Synergy DDB bushings in the control arms. Eventually I will put in custom dana 44's and an atlas someday. good luck, Tim
