Wife said too hot with no windows. (110+ degrees) So the windows must go in. AFAIK oem top that I had taken the windows out of a while ago. Wasn’t looking forward to the task after the few stories that I have read on the forum. Horsehair brushed all the zippers. Applied and scrubbed in the Bestop zipper cleaner. Needed wife’s help with rear window but put side windows in by myself. Pretty straight forward process with just a little finess. Snapped everything in and I’m good to go. I have a bikini top installed. This made flipping the sun rider top a bit more difficult but doable.
Disconnected anti sway bar in garage and tied up with bungees. Aired down to 14 psi. Drove a mile down the highway and I was in the desert. First time aired down and dc’d. I was floating on a cloud. Very nice being able air down and dc in my garage.

Windows out, Sunrider flipped back, dc’d and stuffed

Windows in and ready for the monsoons. I hope.

Tuesday I had to go rescue my baby from the Cali state line. 600 mile round trip through 117 degree temps. Was driving the bug back from a week event in Chino and the coil slid down in its mount and shorted all the wires and the wiring harness went up in smoke from back to front almost burnt the car to the ground. Lucikly it didn't. CA State Trooper emergency tow an hour and a half closer (still 2.5hrs away) was going to cost $800 to $1000. So my buddy who was following me pulled me 7 miles to the next town where I put it in a hotel parking lot overnight so I could come back home and rent a Uhaul dolly for $45 and drive the jeep back to get it.

Jeep did fine 70+mph with the AC on for the most part. It went through some coolant all of a sudden and got hot for a few min then went back down. So I'll have to check that out soon.

Jeep rolled over 60k miles on this trip :(

I had a ‘66 VW that looked like this. I wanted to either make it into a dune buggy or cut it up & turn it into a Baja Bug. The problem was that it wasn’t suitable for that. It needed another engine rebuild, brakes, shocks, tires, ball joints & more, but the body was perfect. ‘Beautiful, in fact. I just went ahead & sold it.

I did an oil & filter change for the first time since I’ve owned it. ‘No problems really. I did find that it’s hard to get the old oil filter out without having to tilt it & spill some old oil. I didn’t try this, but has anyone tried to remove the oil filter from underneath the Jeep or would this just put you in the line of fire for a messy oil shower?
Here’s a pro tip for those if you doing your own oil changes. Remove the oil fill cap & have an assistant place the hose of your shop vac over the oil fill hole in the valve cover. Turn on the shop vac (you are not sucking oil out of the engine). When you go under the Jeep & pull the drain plug no oil will come out. You will hear air bubbling up through the oil in the pan. Have your catch pan in place & have your assistant remove the shop vac & you will see the oil drain normally. This saves one potential mess when you first pull the drain plug.

Seems like a lot of work when a simple paper towel will get the oil off your hand after you remove the plug.

Replacing brand new lifter that started intermintantly ticking on an engine rebuild not even 100miles. They started ticking earlier at like 20miles but I just let it be until now. While I am at it I am converting to Corvette accessories for a few reasons which will be a week long job waiting for parts and doing the trunion upgrade. Cant say the head removal was a fun job, but was not very difficult. These engine bays do fit a V8 very well!

I use a trick I stole from someone else on this forum. Use a plastic grocery bag, and place it over the filter after loosening it slightly. Then, unscrew the filter through the bag and drop it right into the bag. Takes a bit of practice, but after a couple times, I can now get the mess all in the bag and none on the driveway.

Last pic is JK people. We studied them. They don’t like you asking “is there a mall around here?”
