    2005 TJ Rubicon Question

Hi all. I know this has been discussed and I have done some research. I have the chance to buy a 2005 TJ Rubicon, auto, with low miles. No rust, sounds and looks to be in really good shape. I've really wanted a 98-99 or 2003 TJ manual, but this is the Rubicon model and is super clean with under...

    Purchase Advice (02 TJ)

I would expect the consensus on a TJ forum to be the TJ I guess 🤣 It's nice to hear that people enjoy the auto though, because that's one of my biggest question marks...not knowing if I'll like the auto or not!

    Purchase Advice (02 TJ)

Haha 🤣 I did research on this and early 02 builds also were affected. I had the guy check and the head did not have the TUPY marking, indicating it is still the 0331 head prone to cracking. Not a deal breaker, but would need to be watched.

    Purchase Advice (02 TJ)

I think it's just the grainy photos. I'm working on getting better ones. It's original owner who says it really hasn't been driven much in past 10 years, and has seen very few trails. No rust or body damage. Not as clean as the TJ, but it wasn't garage kept like the TJ either. I don't need it to...

    Purchase Advice (02 TJ)

Hi y'all. Got a few deals I'm eyeing right now. Looking for some input. First is a 1995 YJ, 4.0, 5 speed manual, hard top and full doors, AC, all stock except radio and speakers, 3.55 gears with factory rear LSD. No mechanical issues, original owner, clean title, 72K miles, new paint last...

98 TJ rear end noise identification

Hey guys, another update for y'all. No change after messing with the brakes. Here's a GoPro video doing anywhere from 0-40: (sorry, had to attach go pro upside down) Notice the cyclical "wah, wah, wah" that increases with speed (not RPM dependent)? I don't know how I feel about the safety of...

OME 2" lift with heavy duty springs rides harsh

I can confirm that the 241s DO in fact have a hard plastic cover already installed. I installed mine just a few months ago. The 239's come with a rubber boot that you can install if wanted. Hope that helps.

98 TJ rear end noise identification

Update: Found a wide road where I could do a little swerving at speed...seemed like the driver's side was a little noisier when under load. Decided to jack up the front and check brakes. Lots of drag when turning the wheels by hand, especially over a certain spot on the driver's side. Tried...

98 TJ rear end noise identification

Yeah I loosened the rear brakes and rotated the rear tires up on jack stands by hand, and honestly couldn't isolate any dragging, grinding, etc. I tried the fronts back when I had the front DS off, but don't recall noticing anything out of the ordinary. I noticed that the same sound is actually...

98 TJ rear end noise identification

I thought tires at one point, but I swapped with some 225's that I previously had on my Cherokee to test that theory and there wasn't a change in sound.

98 TJ rear end noise identification

Would that still be apparent with the front DS disconnected? Sorry for the ignorance! I've been thinking I may need to put it on stands to trace it appropriately, but that scares me too lol.

98 TJ rear end noise identification

It seems slightly more noticeable at cruising speed/steady throttle, but still apparent if I shift to neutral and coast (to a lesser degree).

98 TJ rear end noise identification

UPDATE: Color me confused. Ran without the rear DS with absolutely no change in the sound. Does that essentially rule out rear end? The sound, if you can't tell from the video, is lower in pitch and almost appears to have a rotational component. I swear it sounded like it was coming from the...

98 TJ rear end noise identification

U joints seem fine to me. I lowered about 1/2" to begin with and it didn't seem to make a difference. I'll try driving without the rear driveshaft this weekend. I am hoping it's nothing major, or that I can address it before it turns into something major.

98 TJ rear end noise identification

Link to video: I was going about 35-40 in this. Sorry for the shot of the carpets lol. Notice the "wah, wah, wah" type sound? Next up, drive with rear driveshaft off. Hoping for something to point me in the right direction!

98 TJ rear end noise identification

Thanks, guys. I can just disconnect at the TC and at the rear diff similar to how the front came off, correct? I'll start there and try to get a short video uploaded from the cab, assuming the sound can be heard.

98 TJ rear end noise identification

Hey all. Been searching like crazy trying to track down a noise on my 98 TJ, 4.0, 5 speed, Dana 35 rear, 62k miles. Lifted 2.5" currently with no TC drop nor SYE, but no vibrations as far as I can tell. The sound I'm experiencing starts to become noticeable when accelerating past 20-25 mph...

Can anyone check a CarFax for me?

I agree with the above advice, but if you're dead set on it you can go through this guy: Sorry if I'm I'm not allowed to link this, if so please let me know moderators! I've used this once and it was legitimate, so just trying to help!

New member with 1998 TJ lift questions

Hello all! I've been a forum lurker for years, but mostly on Jeep and Wrangler forum (+ WF member). However, I love the expertise presented here and figured I'd start participating now that I've added a 98 TJ to the mix! She's a 4.0 5 speed, hard top, mostly stock with the exception of bumpers...
