"Mechanical Relearn" for New Ignition Cylinder

Greetings all: In looking for a replacement for my stuck ignition switch cylinder I am seeing "mechanical relearn required" or "not required." Can someone give me an explanation as to what this means and determining which is right for my '98 TJ 4.0/manual. It doesn't take a chipped key, has...

    Failing Ignition Replacement

Since I got my Jeep the ignition has been quite temperamental, generally it needed a very slow turn of the key to make it start, if turned quickly you’d get no crank at all, however apart from that it had no issues starting at all. I got in this morning and it failed to start, however after...

Radio & wipers died - not ignition switch. Any ideas?

Last week my radio and wipers both stopped working out of the blue. I've checked the fuses and replaced the ignition switch and still nada. Weirdly, when I installed the new ignition switch the indictors also stopped working but I got them going again by turning the key right back past...

Ignition switch cover, screws and spring replacements??

I am the average story of a man replacing an ignition switch actuator that had broken. Upon completing my replacement I noticed a screw and the spring on the inside of the actuator cover had gone missing. Does anyone have any insight on where to find these? Size of screws (I know they're T10...

Have to hammer the key to get to turn

Not my issue, but on a family friend's 1999 4.0L. He has an issue where he can't get the key to turn unless he gives it a couple of good smacks with a mallet, and obviously, it gets worse each time. Is this the cylinder or the switch? Or maybe some other part, I don't know how the key-area works...

    Mysterious Radio Display Behavior

I've had a problem for a while with the OEM radio display occasionally going blank. I eventually traced it to axially play between the key and ignition as seen below. I've only had one ignition key since I bought the Jeep and it's rather worn. The spare key has no SKIM transponder but is in...

    Trouble with lock cylinder

I’m trying to replace my ignition actuator pin on my 2003 TJ I6 4.0L but can’t for the life of me seem to find any information on how to remove my lock cylinder. I know that for most Jeeps it seems to be super easy, just put your key in “run” position and press the little release button. Mine...

    A few questions

I just recently bought a 2007 wrangler Sahara, manual. I'm having an issue where... 1) when I slow down or stop, it sounds like my engine is still revving up high and takes a minute to fall back down, like something is sticking 2)we replaced my ignition switch a few days ago, because when you...

    Bad key switch

my wife has had a few issues where she tried to start the Tj and it won't unless you lift up the key when starting. But last week it wouldn't start and she's been driving my truck since. Auto zone lists two parts to replace it but I'm not sure which item is the culprit for failure. Any...
