Had a fantastic day with @Rescue6.
Stopping on the road to the ghost town of Hancock to air down:
Starting up Hancock Pass:
Eating snow along the route... without even stopping:
The first pass we went over was Hancock Pass:
Starting down the south side of Hancock Pass. One route we had discussed was continuing on the road you see out in the distance which would have taken us over Tomichi Pass. That wasn't possible:
A rockslide had blocked the road to Tomichi Pass. So we took a different route:
Lunch spot:
A fairly new beaver lodge along the trail:
Lots of old mining operations along the way:
Way above timberline again. Lots of old mining roads to go back and explore:
Second pass. Cumberland Pass:
A little side hill we drove up:
The view from the top of that hill:
@Rescue6 I saw this clear across the valley as we descended from Cumberland Pass. To the naked eye, it was just a bump on top of a mountain. I zoomed all the way in and snapped this photo. When I was messing with these photos I was able to see what it was. We've got to go back and figure out how to get up there!
Coming into the historic town of Tin Cup:
This is their town hall which was built in the mid 1800s:
Heading out of Tin Cup. We'll go over Tin Cup Pass and then back to the town of St. Elmo where we started:
Driving through Mirror Lake:
Discussing my line. I ended up basically straddling the stream:
The third pass was Tin Cup Pass. This one was on the Continental Divide as well.
We spent most of the day above timberline. So we saw lots of these big, fat Marmots:
Almost back down into St. Elmo:
