1997 4.0 rebuild question

Hello everyone,
I am new as of today. I have posted this question on my CJ-7 forums with no luck so far. I figured I'd give the 4.0 experts a shot. I am currently in the middle of putting a 1997 4.0 HO into my CJ-7. I am not sure exactly of the donor vehicle but I think a wrangler with no A/C. My question is, I have installed new harmonic balancer, water pump and pulley, new power steering pump and pulley as well as the power steering pump idler/adjust. I have reviewed the serpentine belt "diagram" for the non-a/c belt orientation. I went to a junkyard and put the idler pulley on that is above the alternator although I didn't see its purpose so I removed it as I was trying to install the belt yesterday. I attached it to the only spot that made sense which was a "pass through hole" on the timing chain cover. My belt seemed to be about 3 inches short even with idler/adjust completely loose.

My questions are:
1) Does this pulley system look correct for a Non-A/C 1997 4.0? If not what am I missing?
2) Could it just be the belt isn't correct from Napa?
3) If anyone has picture of their 1997 4.0 wrangler non-a/c belt system I would love to see it.

Well thanks for sending me something Ive seen several times and I never would have thought to google anything SMH. The belt doesn't fit and I am not clear on where the top idler connects or of its purpose. This is a cartoon, I need to see if my work has any mistakes that is causing the belt not to fit so a picture of a working wrangler 4.0 non-ac would be great.

The alternator brackets look like they are switched with upper and lower mounts. The alternator should be higher.

It would appear that you are missing a bracket... Alt should be flipped up, not down... then the 2 idler pullys are on either side of the alt. I know this has the AC compressor, but just delete that...

The early model's place the alternator low, not high like in your 04 (its the "cherokee" block vs the grand cherokee block). It also coincided with coil rail vs distributor.

The early model's place the alternator low, not high like in your 04 (its the "cherokee" block vs the grand cherokee block). It also coincided with coil rail vs distributor.

So this one then... Still looks like he's missing at least an idler...
