Hey guys so I've got a 2006 TJ with the 2.4 and a 6 speed. I love this thing to death but recently, it's been giving me some coolant troubles. About a week ago, i was in town in stop and go traffic and the temp gauge went above 210 for the first time since I've had it. It usually sets just below 1/2 or 210 but it came up to almost 3/4. I was going to get gas anyways so I pulled into the station, started filling up and popped the hood. The coolant reservoir tank was shaking like crazy and it was filled up to about 3 inches from the top. There wasn't any smoke or anything and it wasn't discolored like oil or gas had mixed into it.
After it settled, I waited a few minutes for the engine to cool off and the level went back down to normal. I don't hit stop and go traffic much since i live in a small town but I did a coolant system flush hoping it would solve the issue. I didn't have another episode and the temp never got hot again till today when I was in line at CVS. The coolant wasn't high when I shut it off but the temp was well above where it usually sets.
As soon as I got moving again, the temp came right back down. I'm not loosing power or hearing any weird sounds and I don't have white or blue smoke coming out the tailpipe. I did however smell a faint sent of coolant after I parked it when I got home today. I also have a check engine light on for an evap leak. P0456 is the exact code I believe. Any ideas on what this could be for the coolant thing or both issues if you think they may be related?
