There is a number of issues going on with my Jeep. I'm just collecting thoughts as to what may be done:
Last year the clip that holds the clutch actuator arm to the pedal arm broke and I was able to replace it. The Jeep started normal.
Then it stopped turning over, I was concerned it was the starter but I set it aside for most of a year because personal issues prevented me from really looking into it. Yesterday I replaced the starter. It turns out the ignition switch won't turn the engine over, as it is probably broken internally.
I removed the clutch position sensor wire from the starter, and connected an external starter switch to that tang and connected it to the positive terminal of the battery. I discovered that the battery is also bad. One new battery later and it cranks well. With the ignition on and cranking it with the external switch it won't run. Does anyone have any ideas or similar experiences? I'm gonna keep researching but it's a weird issue, I think I should maybe be able to wire a bypass to the key ignition switch for a push button start, but it may not be that simple. I'm more than happy to replace the ignition switch in the steering column, but I've been throwing a lot of money at this thing in the last couple of days.
