2006 TJ X shock recommendations.

I am going to replace the shocks on my Jeep with no lift.

Any recommendations?

I also have stock ride height. Based on positive forum reviews I installed Rancho RS500X . Cost effective. Made in US. I like them. Ride is just right. Plenty of control around corners but not harsh over bumpy roads.

When I bought my 05’ for the first 4 months I had it, the ride was soft. Too soft it, to much bounce and seem to over lean in the corners. I did a mild lift spring with some homemade spacers on the OEM shocks. So still running the OEM shock with 90k the ride was much more to my liking. Did that for a couple months maybe- picked up some 5000x ranchos and very happy with that ride quality too but obviously they are much better suited to the longer spring length I have.

difference I noticed between the shocks is OEM is a smaller piston higher gas pressure shock the Rancho a larger piston a lower pressure shock.

I dont think you would go wrong with a Gabriel/Monroe gas charged…but all that long winded information to say that the KYB excel G shocks would be a good choice to replace the OEM shock based on what I have seen with the smaller piston, higher gas pressure but you have some mileage on your TJ might find additional Improvement in changing out the springs if your looking for more firmness after swapping shocks.

I ran these for a year before I put in my lift and required new shocks. I really loved the firm, controlled ride. They also seemed to ride nicely on washboard gravel roads.

I like shocks that have a rod cover like oem, not the rubber boots.
