4.0 Engine Bay Carwashed

My daughter went on to spray two cans of engine gunk cleaners into the engine bay and waited 30 minutes, then power washed it thoroughly at the driveway. She have no clue about cars.

Later on she called saying the jeep doesn't start and all the lights went off and she lost everything functional that needs power. engine light, park light, ABS, radio, signal, horn, etc. you name it, it scared the heck out of her.

Calmly, I told her to leave it overnight, and go back in the morning and start it back on. I was doing it to buy time because she doesn't know I was in panic mode, she is in Texas and I am in Iowa

A sigh of relief, it started back up and everything is fine. TJ rocks !!!!!

Happened to me once or twice as well when I went to one of those self carwash places when I was much younger!

Once everything dries out, it's usually fine. You've got to be careful though, it's basically a pressure washer you're spraying directly at the engine.

Happening every time I clean my engine. I do it with a garden hose. It still acts up. I have tried everything. Wrapping all connectors cap coil. I just know that I do it when i don't need to drive for 3-4 hours.

I power washed the interior of my jeep, these things are awesome. Pulled the carpets out, went to the car wash and cleaned out all the extra mud and junk.

Just washed out my engine bay yesterday. Avoided the ecm, and only used a hose, but it did putter a bit when I first started it up. All good now.

I agree with @KCsTJ Nice work on the fatherly advice...you made like a duck (cool calm and collect on the surface but paddling like hell underneath) haha
I just put plastic bag over the dizzy and fuse box and alternator and its all good...

Alternator is really designed to get wet and does not get damaged. Engineers before us really had this design down to a tee.

Your daughter's story reminded me of a past incident. Around 1970, my cousin asked to wash her mom's car. She used the garden hose, sponge, and shampoo on the interior of a Chevy Impala. After drying a few days, everything worked just fine.

When I was 4 years old, I put the garden hose in the gas tank of my dad's new 57 Chevy and filled her up!
When my dad asked me why I did that, I told him, "I saw the man at the gas station do it."
Mom ran in the house busting a gut and dad had no choice but to drop the tank and drain it and he was no mechanic.
