4.0 loud engine rattle until warmed up

Thanks for the replies. I'll get a mechanics stethoscope and scope. It's supposedly at 128K miles but had 3.07 gears and 33s with no change to the speedo gear, so it could be a bit higher. I put 4.56 gears in it per Jerry's suggestions and for my daily and fun car, it's perfect. I'm 70 and in western Colorado and "town" is only a mile and a half away. So mostly short trips 2-3 times a week and then used as a trail jeep. I enjoy it a lot and want to keep it running even though I doubt it will see 2K miles per year. I think I'll just change pistons out and then look everything over while it's open.

I meant a boroscope rather than a mechanic's stethoscope. You don't need anything fancy with the boroscope. I've found it to be a very useful tool for more than just inspecting cylinder bores.
