5.3 Vortec swap transmission options

Though the 4L80 is a stront option, it is long and most of the adapters that are not excessively long require tearing down the trans to swap the output shaft (at least 4L60s require it).

PSA to anybody wanting to use a 4L60E in a TJ,

An NP231C transfer case has the same spline count and shaft size as a 4L60E. The case itself is 99.5% identical to an NP231J, but utilizes a 4 pinion planetary gear and a 1-1/4" chain.

I swapped a 5.3 in my TJ using this setup and was able to use my stock length front driveshaft. The overall lenght of the 5.3 4L60E compared to a 4.0 mated with an NV3550 was approximately 3/4" longer.
