Several things resulted in this revision. First, I rarely listen to music on my radio, rather I have my GMRS plugged into it's aux input. Being on the wrong side of 70, that really helps the clarity of the chatter. Then my lockers crapped out; I never found where the wire was broken but I found I could put power to the relays and the lockers would work. More on that below. I decided to use an Auxbeam in lieu of 2 toggle switches as most of you do. I didn't like where the stock Rubi locker switch was and kept eyeing the mostly unused radio.
So ... I ditched the radio completely and that's when this project got expensive! I found a delete kit at Urban3D but didn't care for the fit. So I decided to make my own; which meant I had to learn CAD and get a 3D printer. That was a steep learning curve for a FOG. But I got something acceptable done.
The delete plate is printed in ASA. The control on the left is a SoundExtreme Bluetooth Receiver Rocker Switch Remote Control , the Auxbeam is a BC60, and there is a USB outlet on the right. I hung a JVC KS-DR2004D 4-channel marine amplifier under the steering column and installed a full set of Kicker 51KSC504 speakers.
I used a piece of scrap angle iron and some left-over HDPE to make the amp mount .
the amp is at the perfect angle to adjust and easy to get to.
I wanted to save the space next to the brake booster for relocating the locker pumps should more locker issues arise. So I put the Auxbeam controller by the battery. That also put the wiring closer.
I pulled the locker relays and put power to the pins there. Turns out that all the locker lights on the dash work as normal with one exception. If I power the front lockers, the lockers engage but the dash lights don't turn on. Turn on the rear locker and everything works as normal. Sweet!
Last thing, I can connect my phone to the control by bluetooth and play music if I want. All-in-all, this turned out well. As a side benefit, I don't have to argue with my BSU on why I needed a 3D printer.
