Ok well I have my gas tank out and about to replace my fuel pump.
I really like the look without the gas tank. Wish there were a better place

Who needs that thing anyway? Can't even tell you what it does and constantly putting money into it, leave it out, I say!

I found out tonight that I have been needing a new fuel pump for a long time now! Actually from the day I bought it.
I can remember paying the money to the prev. owner , getting in the jeep and having to turn the key over several time before it started.
Skip forward to today.:sun_smiley:, well the new fuel pump is in and it cranks before it turns over 2 times. WOW. I also have a LOT better throttle response, and i mean a lot.
so my advice to you is go get a new fuel pump:thumbup:.

This is a very motivating post. Although turning the key several times to prime before cranking has been working well lately, I would like to eliminate this long-crank bs once and for all. The throttle response is a nice bonus. Thank you EG.

I'll be getting a new fuel pump myself within the next year. I had the same problem with my 95 ZJ. Bosch is recommended, but they no longer produce it. I went with a Delphi and it's been fine the last 5 years.
I'm still trying to figure out if mine is a 15 or a 19 gal. My build sheet says 19, but I let it get pretty empty once and only got 11 gallons in it. The reason I'm looking at getting a new one is that the pressure regulator is out, letting the fuel go back into the tank. Maybe the sender is going out, too making me think its the smaller tank. It's a '99 4.0.

Ya know in hind site, there are several reasons to change out your fuel pump, if your having some issues. These come to mind.
1. having to prime the fuel line several time before starting, a major problem if on the trails if jeep dies. or embarrassing on at the sonic. ha.
2. taxing on the starter and ignition.
3. Taking out your gas tank gives you an opportunity to clean, prime, undercoat, jeep under the tank. and maybe even take out shock bolts and replace or put anti-seize on them if needed. if your thinking about doing a body lift "makes it easier to reach the bolts".
4. If this fuel pump last as long as the first one , well it will be 2039 lol.
5. you will be a person of knowledge.
6. better throttle response and actual fuel pressure at the fuel rail.
