A YJ with an LS, 40's, Coilovers, & Spidertrax Axles

I was following the build on the YJ site but never bothered to register. So glad you posted it up here as well. This rig is going to be nuts! Hopefully I can get out and wheel with you once it's finished.

Yea, I like the YJ site a lot, in time it will grow. For the time being, I will just post on both concerning the build.

I’d be down for a ride for sure when I get it done.

A few parts to stretch the rear arrived today from Motobilt. A rear weld on bumper with recovery points and leaf spring shackle hangers, frame tie ins, and rear shackles.

I waited until their black Friday sale which shaved a little over $60 off of it.

The motobilt stretch “kit” will be welded to the most rear part of the frame. There is a factory crossmember there which can be removed if so desired. I will likely remove it and replace it with some DOM tube, if space allows, then have the rear kit welded on.

The kit comes with frame tie ins that are welded in place on each outside frame rails.

The kit stretches the rear a full 6 inches with XJ springs or 4 inches dependent upon the case of certain offset springs that Jeep has used under other models. I have some doubts that I will be able to run a full 6 inches of stretch while still using a under tub fuel tank, even with the stretch tank I purchased from Genright. Time will tell and I will find out during mock up, with the goal of getting the Spidertrax axle as far back as I possible can while keeping the tank under there.

A pair of Genright axle shock mounts for the Spidertrax axle also arrived today.

I like that, might have to grab one.

Can I at least be the voice of reason and say you should link this thing?
I have gotten several inquires about the KC Cyclones dome light mount. Here are the details.

https://cutlessdesigns.com/store.Offered for 2”, 1.75”, and 1.5” tubes. The newest ones will be anodized gloss black as seen in some of the photos for a really clean finish.

As mentioned earlier in this thread they are 6061 Aluminum and new orders will be finished in gloss black vs the grey anodized version that I have.

Started the cleaning process yesterday on one of my GenRight stretch tanks that I never cleaned. The tank was purchased used and has a bunch of spray paint on it and adhesive from some kind of tape that's been baked on.

Using ScotchBrite, WD-40, and a some elbow grease to achieve a clean brushed finish.
The photos below were taken after about 30 mins of work. I have some of work ahead of me tomorrow.

Being that your rear 10 inch axle will be HP, I think you be able to make it work with the tank underneath and the drivetrain you will be using. And only 4 inches of stretch.

Your rear driveshaft may be sort of short due to the 4L80, but will not have much angle on it with the HP. I had a Currie HP 9" 16 years ago in my old YJ. Even spring over i had minimal angle. It was nice.

Oh, and excellent clean work!

That’s my goal. I wouldn't hesitate on having a custom stretch tank built if push comes to shove. Although, I’m confident that I can make the older GenRight tank work without issue.

The now discontinued GenRight GST-4005 allows for a 7” stretch using a Dana 44 and a 6” stretch with a Dana 60. With the Spidertrax housing I should be able to get in the 7” range ...if required.

And only 4 inches of stretch.
As designed, the Motobilt YJ/XJ stretch kit yields 6 inches of rear wheelbase/axle stretch. So the GenRight GST-4005 should work.

With no front axle stretch that would put my wheelbase at 99.4” based off the factory YJ 93.4” wheelbase.

Considering the 4L80E is 10 inches longer than the AX-5, it was one of the many factors for the decision to go with the Gearworks high pinion third member.

Also, fun fact, at 15 degrees, the Spidertrax housing has a whopping 5 inches of ground clearance. (Measured from axle tube centerline to lowest measurable point of the differential) That’s more than a factory Spicer/Dana 44, if not more in the realm of a Dana 35.

I’ll document a few measurments from axle tube centerline to lowest hanging point of the diff for the Dana 35, Dana 44, etc. in this thread in the next few months.

Leaf springs are no longer being considered for this YJ build. The build plans have completely changed direction.

In an effort to get the most wheelbase I can for a tire in the 38-40” range, I won’t be able to get the wheelbase where I want with leafs.

Going with 2.0 or 2.5 coil overs and links, I can put the wheelbase exactly where I want it with respects to packaging it all with the axles and an under tub stretch tank.

Now its a party!

do they sell assemblies or is it all a la carte?
seems like your 5$ away from planetary axles by the time you set up a pair of these.

Heck yea, doing some research on it all and trying to pick a front axle. Was going with the Dynatrac ProRock 60 but will likely go with a Spidertrax front to match the rear.
Why a prorock over rockjock? Fusion 4x4 does fab housing also I noticed. Might be a bit cheaper than spider
