Hey gang, So I put on a 3 inch body lift to my LJ....I was wondering if anyone else has run into the problem where there is a rattling sound and/or something is loose. I went around to each mount and made sure the long bolt connecting the mounts to the body were tight and they seemed just fine. But as I drive I will hear a rattle here and there. I was wondering if anyone had advise (or if I should find longer bolts to ensure they’re threaded to its maximum

Didjooo.....do any supporting mods? Motor mount lift, anything like that?

And really, my big personal question:

Why would you do a 3 inch body lift? Ever?
yeah I put on a motor mount lift and I have a suspension lift.

And to answer your question, honestly to teach their own, I wanted to do it and made sure it was safe and yeah lol

3" BL= NO. 3" BLT=YES.
p.s. The rattle is probably the transfer case linkage.

Welp....good to know stock jeep owners are still sour. I have a valid question and hoping someone that actually does mods can help. Take the hate elsewhere

Sour? In your dreams. Hate? I might point it out and laugh, so it's more like a humorous mood instead of hate.

I told you how to fix your problem, and I DGAF about your opinion of my solution. It's a well known fact by people that actually do real work on TJs that a 3" body lift is a bad idea for a myriad of reasons. Ya, I prefer a stock Jeep, but I have done plenty of real suspension work to my TJ and damn well know a 3" body lift is a shortcut to bigger tires which is all it is good for.

Ditch the 3" lift. Good luck finding someone that thinks it's a great idea.

Do u think if taking it off and putting a higher suspension lift would that be as dumb or would it be a good idea...sorry for coming off as rude I just got defensive lolol

Many people, myself included, run a BL. It actually makes some things easier to work in and sets you up for future mods like tummy tuck. However, I would not go over 1.25”. Here is link to probably the most recommended on the forum. Reason it is prefer is because is solid pucks and will not deform like a rubber or poly puck. https://savvyoffroad.com/product/sav-bltj/

From your profile, looks like you added the 3” to your 2.5” spring to clear 35s. I’m not sure how great it will clear those if you back off to a 1.25” BL. With a 3 or 4 inch spring it should be fine but you will need adjustable control arms, trac bars, and maybe SYE/rear driveshaft (should be ok w/out SYE as have LJ). In short, 35s can be a major expensive rabbit hole.

What is your primary use for the LJ?

Excessive body lifts look goofy, and coupled with big tires just scream "shortcut". TJ's seem to be common for body lifts to accommodate non-tiny tires, but it's via a suspension lift/body lift combination.

If your *only* goal is to accommodate huge tires, I guess a huge body lift works...but jeepers in general know what they see.

@YassinWtheLJ

Boogieman mentioned the shifter linkage.. i would look there first.

I would then check that the fan shroud is completely secure. (I had a knocking noise when a bottom corner of my fan shroud came undone)

Sway bars misaligned and banging on frame?

Bad/failing ujoints?

Last idea... could it be a loose mml bolt?

I mainly use it as a weekend car...show up to functions and just cruise and also trail

Turned out to be a trans mount nut loose!

Thank you sir I’ve really put thought into it and should execute when I get the chance
If you already have 2.5” SL, you can get a 1.5” spacer to get up to 4”, then with a 1-1.25” BL you would be good to go for 35’s and a lot less problems. Of course, there is a list of supporting mods. Best of luck!

With a 3" body lift.....it makes it a lot easier to get to welded the rear upper shock nuts, once the bolts breaks.
You could change the fuel pump with out dropping the tank too. Maybe a small exaggeration. There is a TJ with a 3 in BL and a 6” spring lift that I see driving around. It looks ridiculous but it’s not mine.
