Air Box and hose question

I was just curious if I had the correct air box and hose assembly on my 2001 Sahara with the 4.0. It has a connector on the backside of the hose (circled in red) but there is no connector in the engine compartment to connect to it. I've also noticed that other wranglers have a hose that comes off that same location and goes directly into the valve cover. Just trying to learn a little and fix up a jeep that wasn't taken very good care of by the previous owner. Thanks!

You have an 05-06 intake hose. The sensor is a IAT sensor, 01-04 had the sensor in the intake manifold. It is present in your second picture at around the 8 o'clock position from the Throttle body. You should have 0 issue running an 05/06 intake tube as long as all of the vacuum hoses are routed correctly.

That is not correct. That is the intake air temp sensor, IAT, for the 05, 06.

The Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor is always in the intake manifold below the throttle plate.

No 4.0 has a MAF sensor.

Thank you! I thought it was strange, but I haven't had any issues driving it as the vacuum hoses are all installed. I may try to swap it out in the future. Not a fan of most CAI though because there is just so much heat under the hood.

The IAT in the 05/06 intake tube won't harm anything, but doesn't have a provision for the crank case ventilation in the same location as stock 00-04.

Lots of little differences in the intake in the 00-06 era.

03-04 intake has the same IAT position as your 2001, but I believe different bosses cast into the intake to hold part of the wiring harness. You can see the threaded port for the IAT here where it is a blank in the 05/06 casting above.

While it is said that the IAT location in the 05/06 is beneficial to get lower intake temp readings and prevent spark retardation due to heat, in the 97-04 JTEC PCM, this is one of only 2 defenses against high temps causing knock. No TJ 4.0L has a knock sensor. The 05/06 was programmed for that IAT sensor location, while the earlier models were not. I'd stick with the stock IAT as you are. Use the 05/06 with caution as it likely will not pull back on timing.
